Who is Saurav Chauhan? All you need to know about RCB's 23-year-old batter

RCB’s Saurav Chauhan made his IPL debut against Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 season.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match No. 19 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on April 5, RCB young all-rounder Saurav Chauhan made his IPL debut.

With a golden opportunity to showcase his talent on the biggest stage of Indian cricket, all eyes will be on Chauhan in the upcoming RCB matches.

Who is RCB’s young sensation Saurav Chauhan?

The left-handed batter Saurav was born on May 27, 2000, and he was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. As per some reports, his father was a groundsman at the AMC stadium in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad. The talented player stayed with his family in a single-room house.

However, his passion for cricket sparked at a young age after seeing his father’s hard work and dedication as a groundsman in Ahmedabad. Saurav started his cricketing journey in Gujarat, and he showcased his batting skills at an early age.

The 23-year-old made his T20 debut during the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he smashed an impressive fifty. He also made his List A debut later that year.

In February 2022, the young cricketer made his debut in First Class (FC) cricket for Gujarat against Kerala. Despite facing many challenges, his skills and exceptional talent across formats earned him respect and trust for his domestic side, Gujarat.

2023 proved to be a breakthrough year for Saurav, as he made headlines by crushing the iconic record for the fastest fifty in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (India’s domestic T20 cricket tournament). During the chase of 127 runs against Arunachal Pradesh, the Gujarat cricketer smashed a 14-ball half-century. Chauhan played a magnificent 61-run knock off just 18 balls, including five fours and six sixes, during his stay at the crease.

In the previous edition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Saurav smashed 251 runs in eighth games at an average of 35.85 and an explosive strike rate of 184.55 with two half-centuries to his name. The left-handed batter also has two tons and four fifties, combining FC and List A cricket.

With these stellar performances in the Indian domestic circuit, Saurav was acquired by the Bengaluru franchise for his base price at the IPL 2024 mini-auction in December 2023.

What is Saurav Chauhan’s salary for IPL 2024?

All-rounder Saurav Chauhan was acquired by RCB at the IPL 2024 auction for his base price at INR 20 lakhs. The all-rounder will earn 20 lakhs in the entire season excluding awards.
