The Calgary Flames dealt Noah Hanifin to Vegas at the trade deadline, and after a brutal game seven loss, the conditions on the pick have now become official.

The 2024 trade deadline was a wild one, with one of the most shocking trades coming in the Pacific Division as the Golden Knights landed star defenseman Noah Hanifin from Calgary. It was a deal that nobody saw coming, and it came with two major conditions, both of which have now already been met.

The 2024 3rd round pick #VegasBorn sent to the #Flames in the Noah Hanifin trade will NOT upgrade to a 2025 2nd round pick.

The first condition was met early on, as the Knights traded their 2025 first-round pick to land Tomas Hertl, meaning that the Flames will now get an unprotected 2026 first-round pick in the deal. Last night the second condition was met, as Vegas failed to win a round in the playoffs, meaning that instead of a 2025 second-round pick, Calgary will get another pick in 2024, but it will come in the third-round.

On top of that, Calgary got a promising defenseman in Daniil Miromanov, who ended up on the team's power play late in the year, so while it's not a massive trade for the Flames, it's certainly not the worst one they've made in recent times. Vegas however had much bigger plans in the 2024 playoffs, so we will see how they react going forward with much fewer assets to improve their team, but for now, this blockbuster trade deadline trade is now official.
