Louisiana is asking the US Supreme Court to save the state’s second majority-Black congressional district and freeze litigation its attorneys say is causing “chaos” mere days before officials must prepare for the primaries.
“Five days out from May 15—the date by which the Louisiana Secretary of State needs to begin implementing a congressional map for the 2024 elections—Louisiana has no congressional map,” the state said in an emergency petition filed with the court Friday.
