Nightworld: 30 Years to Life, Time Out - Die Zeit läuft ab
It's the far-flung future of 2020, and Vinnie Dawson is an average 15 year old high schooler. He's got fabulously wealthy parents, and hangs out at the local mall playing virtual reality shooters when he's not grinding out sweet tunes on his cherry red electric guitar.
But when his step-dad won't give him $1,000 dollars ($628 in 1998 dollars) to enter the local VR tournament, Vinnie threatens to kill him before storming out into the night. Step-dad is promptly bludgeoned to death and Vinnie gets promptly convicted. But in this future hellscape, you don't spend time in prison. You get "wrinkled" by geriatrification. Now 45 and looking like Robert Hayes, Vinnie must work prove his innocence, find the real killer…
This movie actually did a number on my senses - while I was watching it, I really got wrapped up in the world. I thought their portrayal of 2020 was pretty fun, but a little optimistic (not so many electric cars on the road in our world).
Reflecting back on it though, the story was just... really paper thin! And the central premise that people get aged for crimes feels almost entirely irrelevant.
I'd still recommend it though, the writing wasn't bad, the acting was good and it also gave me a nostalgia trip seeing 1990s technology adapted for a vision of the "future".
What started out as kida good quickly went down to not good at all. It has a good story but could not put it on film very well. Hayes does not know how to play a 15 year old and made not get into the film. The fact that I think this movie takes place over about 4 weeks is pretty dumb too. I will give it props on the fact that hayes could play an older dude and made that work. It had this one scene where a doctor was telling him about his health and it was blowing his mind. I thought that was pretty funny. miss this shit
