Product Description
Product Description
Years before the Lord of the Rings trilogy catapulted him to international superstardom, Viggo Mortenson (Eastern Promises, a History of Violence) played Wes, a young husband locked in co-dependent discontent with his beautiful and needy wife Karen (Jennifer Rubin, the Doors). Their future prospects as barren as the sun-bleached dunes that are the surreal setting for their one room existence, Wes and Karen go through the dehumanizing motions of a modern life in which happiness is as ephemeral and elusive as the grains of sand beneath their feet.
Review
A highly visual, beautifully shot striking film ... where the director's maverick vision creates a metaphor for our times against a barren landscape. --Piers Handling, Toronto International Film Festiva

Viggo isn't Harry, btw. He's a victim of Harry, and basically his entire world. He plays the part well despite some of the scenes being somewhat overdone in their delivery. It alternately makes you want to cringe a little or laugh out loud, as in the timing of 'the bomb'. All the acting is solid. The story is solid. The dialogue intentionally mundane. And I will never think of sand in the same way again.
