Big Time Nothing Lyrics
Don't blink, don't wait, don't walk, you're late
Don't fall from grace, behave
Don't trip, sashay
Okay, sashay
Don't kid, don't blame, don't snap, insane
Don't crack, don't act your age
Don't change your name
It's all the rage
Do ask but don't tell, don't laugh but do smile
Don't have a glass, don't stay a while
Don't take a pic
Don't feel so sick
[Pre-Chorus]
Big time nothing
[Chorus]
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside
Nothing
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside
Your eyes
[Post-Chorus]
One, two, one two
Don't show, don't flake, go hard, debase
Don't make a dishonest mistake
Don't be so sure
I need a cure
[Pre-Chorus]
One more score
Big time nothing
Just like a
Big time nothing
I, I, I
[Chorus]
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside
Nothing
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside your
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside
Nothing
I look inside, I look inside, I look inside your eyes
[Instrumental Break]
Uh
[Outro]
(Big time nothing) Big time nothing
(Big time nothing) Big time nothing
(Big time nothing) Big time nothing
(Big time nothing) Big time
About
Described by St. Vincent as the inner monologue of depression and anxiety, “Big Time Nothing” is the third and final single off her seventh studio album All Born Screaming. It was released on April 23, 2024, three days before the album’s release. Unlike the rest of the record, which was written solely by Annie Clark, the song had a writing contribution from Cate Le Bon, who also provided backing vocals for the album-closing title track.
The lyrics explore the conflict between individuality and conformity to societal norms through clear instructions and contradictory commands, with some music critics taking the second verse and the chorus as a comment on the bad faith and falsity of life online.

To me the song was just like what depression says to you. Like, this anxious roiling: the sound of the inside of my head that every day [says]: “Go, go, go, you stupid bitch. You think you’re something and you’re fucking nothing, you idiot!”
