After being delayed three separate times, Free Guy is almost here. The sci-fi action-comedy film starring Ryan Reynolds has earned rave reviews from critics, and is already certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its opening weekend.

Free Guy takes place in a virtual metropolis called Free City, where drive-bys and explosions occur on a daily basis. Guy is an ordinary bank teller who finds out that he's a background character in a video game. Now self-aware, he teams up with Molotovgirl to save his crumbling world from the greedy CEO who's threatening to bring it all down. Here's a breakdown of the cast of Free Guy, as well as the characters they are playing.

Guy (Ryan Reynolds)

Guy is an unremarkable, relentlessly optimistic bank teller at Free City Bank. After running into the mysterious Molotovgirl, Guy learns that he's a Non-Player Character in the uber-popular, Grand Theft Auto-esque "Free City." She tells him that the game's twisted creator is going to shut the game down soon, which prompts Guy to try and stop it. He gains access to a pair of sunglasses that reveal the game's inner workings and give him incredible abilities, propelling Guy to become an internet star.

Somewhat of a cross between Ted Lasso and The Matrix's Neo, this self-aware background character learns to do extraordinary things to save the only world he's ever known. Guy is played by the effortlessly charismatic Ryan Reynolds, who is best known for Deadpool.

Millie Rusk (Jodie Comer)

In the real world, Millie Rusk is an introverted video game designer and programmer. In Free City, however, she is a badass, confident biker chick that goes by the name of Molotovgirl. Millie has a bone to pick with Antwan, the publisher behind "Free City," believing that he stole the source code that she developed along with her friend Keys. Her game aspired to be something more than pure carnage and violence, but Soonami Studios bought their work and perverted it. Believing that her original source remains buried somewhere within Free City, Molotovgirl enlists the help of Guy to find it.

As someone who feels like a background character in real life, Millie sympathizes with the hapless Guy, and the two spark an impossible romance between AI and human. Millie/Molotovgirl is played by the Emmy-winning actor Jodie Comer, best known as Villanelle from Killing Eve.

Antwan (Taika Waititi)

The owner of Soonami Studios, Antwan is the epitome of greed. He is arrogant, obnoxious and the embodiment of Silicon Valley's very worst attributes come to life. He stole the code that Millie and Keys developed and used it for his ultra-violent open world game. Now, Guy's free will threatens to upend his entire operation. Antwan had planned to fully shut "Free City" down to release a shameless, cash-grab sequel called "Free City: Carnage." With limited time before the virtual world comes crashing down, Antwan dispatches Keys and Mouser, trusted Soonami employees, to stop Guy once and for all. Antwan is played by the virtuoso writer-director Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit.

Walter "Keys" McKeys (Joe Keery)

Walter "Keys" McKeys is a video game designer and Millie's former partner. After the two of them sold their work to Soonami, he began working for the soulless corporation, whereas Millie looked to take them down. Keys has deep-seated feelings for Millie, and is stunned to learn that she is falling in love with an AI named Guy. Antwan deploys Keys to remove Guy from the game before he gets any more powerful and threatens to ruin everything. Keys' avatar is that of a stripper cop, and he partners with fellow coder, Mouser, to track Guy down. Keys is played by Joe Keery, who is best known as Steve Harrington in Stranger Things.

Buddy (Lil Rel Howery)

The aptly named Buddy is Guy's best friend. He is the security guard at the Free City Bank, where armed robberies are a daily occurrence. A tried and true NPC at heart, Buddy is content to live his life without questioning if there is anything more to this deranged world. His character goes beyond the role of comic relief, bringing real heart to Free Guy. He may not understand what Guy is going through, but he supports his friend through thick and thin anyway. Buddy is played by Lil Rel Howery, who played Rod Williams in Get Out.

Mouser (Utkarsh Ambudkar)

Mouser (Utkarsh Ambudkar) is loyal to Antwan in Free Guy.

Mouser is one of the two coders that Antwan sends into Free City to destroy Guy, along with Keys. Mouser is fiercely loyal to the Soonami Studios CEO, and will do anything to win his approval. In the video game world, his avatar is a bloodthirsty, pink rabbit. In real life, the video game programmer carries himself like a surly rockstar. Mouse is played by Utkarsh Ambudkar, who previously starred in Brittany Runs a Marathon.

Free Guy will release exclusively in theaters on August 13.
