The best part of my experience is the teachers. The teachers are very helpful at the school, they push you to do things and they help you with anything. Some of the administrators are also very helpful some counselors really do help especially getting towards graduation, I got some help towards the end, but very helpful. Some bad experiences are the amount of resources, it wasn’t good enough. They lacked a lot on recourses, I feel like they could’ve have more stuff to provide for students.
While the school does have a good focus on the essential academics and arts, the safety of the school can be questionable. Favoritism between those meant to ensure safety was present and multiple warnings were used on students who repeatedly did an illegal action. I hope the school will be able to fix this issue in order to make sure students are safe.
I do think I hit the jackpot with the teachers I got through my 4 years of High School. They all took the time to get to know each student, even a little bit. You’re going to get the experience you look for. I was in my shell for a lot of the time, but if you take the time to participate and be involved in school activities you could have 4 unforgettable years. I was able to experience regular, honors, and bilingual classes and saying that they’re different is an understatement. Regular classes I felt were too slow for me and my peers never took anything seriously. In my honors classes almost everyone stayed on top of their game and attendance was insanely different. Bilingual classes are something I hope change. They don’t get the same opportunities as some other people in the High School and they’re often overlooked. Overall, I had 4 pleasant years and I will never forget the teachers that showed me that they truly care about the kids they teach. It makes a difference.
The main office is horrible service, horrible teachers , They sit on there butts and dont teach. Personally my counselor is rude and nasty. The security here are the worst . The food looks disgusting. Would never send my child here.
it’s good i mean there’s really good teachers that do help you a lot and the schools after school club are really good but safety is really concerning at points with waukegan high school have so many threats, and just a bunch of “gang” activity
The teachers and admin try hard to help us students succeed after high school they prepared me a lot with post-high school. I would change the food they give and if I were staff I would work harder to communicate with other staff about important details regarding students.
It's alright, the bathrooms are nasty, the food could use some love, but there are some nice teachers and staff that really make the school feel like home.
Waukegan High School isn't a bad school, but every school can use some improvement. The building itself is old and requires a lot of fixing since bricks are falling out of place. The building isn't modern at all which can cause some issues with the building. This school is predominantly made up of Hispanic students and a small mix of African-American students. There isn't much diversity. Since the school is made up of mainly Hispanic students with a mix of African American students there is a lot of tension between both races because of a derogatory word that isn't being used by the correct race. Some students take it upon themselves to correct it because some administrators allow the word to be constantly used. The school does have a lot of resources for students and does help students out often when needed or when asked. The counselors and teachers are amazing, helpful, kind, and respectable. The teachers are great at teaching lessons and bringing on new information to all students.
My overall experience with Waukegan High School was not bad. I was able to learn what I needed to achieve for my future college experience. It was definetly hard to be in a school where most of the students weren't there to learn and most of the teachers did go easy on us due to the current area we lived in at Illinois. I did however meet the greatest teachers in my AP classes and classmates that have made me the student I am today and I hope with everything that I have learned, I'm able to achieve my college dreams.
Security isn't the best there, some teachers and security are known for sleeping with students, it's really easy to get into the school no problem, if you go to the office for an emergency situation you'll often hear "there's not much we can do.", you report an assault of any kind there's nothing they can do, you warn them you're getting threats they won't do anything till it's too late, you let them know some staff members are being creepy there's nothing they can do. On the other hand, I love the lunch staff as well as the art teachers. There's one teacher Mr.Blair who's crazy involved with his students and I trust him a ton
Waukegan Highschool did not prepare me for college whatsoever. Over the course of the four years there I came to be ranked within the top 20 of my graduation class but yet the feedback I got from my college career center was to stick to a school within the state and not follow my dreams of the school I wished to attend. The support and guidance I wished for was never brought to justice within the schooling community, I would have wished to be understood more and guided through my possible choices instead of being told to give up.
Waukegan High School may look like a good school but overall it is not quite good. This high school is always on lockdown and the student diversity is only between African Americans and Hispanic. While this is not a bad thing this school needs more diversity. This school does not use its money towards fixing parts of our school.
If you are in the honors or AP classes, you will certainly get a good education here with teachers who care and are passionate with what they do, with other students who are also motivated. However, with what I've heard from the standard classes, some teachers do not care and a lot of the students do not care either. It is certainly about who you surround yourself with.
Waukegan High School was one of the best school I attended. The staff and teachers care about their students future and are willing to help anyone in need. I have become the person I am today because of the faculty staff & teachers who appreciate everyone and take time out of their day to help anyone in need.
Best part is that it is very diverse as welcoming and I don’t have anything negative to say. Being at Waukegan High School taught me many thing and made me who I am today
My experience at Waukegan High School wasn’t the most pleasant but also not the worst experience I’ve had in the world. The first thing I’ll say is that the school is already very overcrowded. There are some hallways in both campuses that are just way too small to handle such a big amount of students at once. Washington Campus is also just really old, outdated, and not built to handle the amount of student they have today. Brookside Campus I would say have some larger hallways but still struggle with the same issue at Washington Campus. Another thing is that both campuses deal with a great amount of violence. Based on my experience Brookside Campus had the most amount of fights while Washington Campus had fewer fights. I think this mostly has to do with the fact that Brookside Campus handles Freshmans and Sophmores while Washington Campus handles Juniors and Seniors which already says a lot in the demographic that each campus is dealing with. Lastly, both schools are very dirty. :(
The best was honestly a lot of the teacher so of them were amazing for example Mr. Vondolie (Brookside) or Mrs Duda (Washington) there are more but these two are the heart and souls of Waukegan high school
