Sorry it took me a moment to post this… I have visited Phil & Derek’s multiple times… afternoons and evenings (make a reservation if you want a guaranteed seat 🪑) the food NEVER disappoints. They have good music (R&B mostly) playing during the day and sensational live artist some evenings. Next door use to be the comedy spot (it was/is nice too) I have to make this post about the most scrumptious catfish I've ever tasted. The crispy coating was on point! It gave way to tender and flavorful fish inside 😋. I truly savored every bite and enjoyed the shrimp as well ( my husbands food but I ate his 😂) the other dish (sorry I forgot) was delicious as well🤤. If you haven’t visited please do yourself a favor and GO….. do KNOW they will add gratuity to large parties and they are not too expensive, but definitely not cheap…. 😎 Great for lunch dates or couples night out.

Great atmosphere
I went to this place on a Thursday. The jazz was excellent along with the laid back feel. The food was not the best. We ate before we got there and I am glad we did. We opted to get some dessert (donut bread pudding). I took 2 bites and couldn’t eat it. I was not a fan. Needless to say, I would definitely come back for the vibes but not the food.

This Establishment Doesn’t Deserve Any Stars 😡😡
I Loved This Place & Visited Often Before Pandemic But Yesterday Was The Absolute Worse Experience Ever!
I Arrived & Got On The Waiting List At 12 Noon & Was Told The Wait Was About 45 Minutes Which Turned Out To Be An Hour & 30 Minutes Then After Being Seated And Placing Our Order An Hour & Half Later After Speaking To Manger About Long Wait & Was Given An Excuse About The Kitchen Being Backed Up The Food Comes Out Cold 😡 So At This Point Me & My Other 2 Guest Are Really Pissed Cause Of Course After Being That Patient Who Would Expect We’d Receive Cold Food! After Another Manger Comes To The Table & Apologize He Offers To Get The Order Remade & Promise It’ll Be Fresh He Offered An Discount Which Is Typical Of Mangers & Kinda Expects Us Customers Should Just Be Satisfied Well I Didn’t Come To Patronize Your Business Looking For A Discount I Wanted A Great Experience & You Guys Didn’t Do The Job Not To Mention The After The Management Offered The Discount When The Tab Came So Did He Saying He Apologize Again But He Couldn’t Honor The Discount He Offered 🤔🤦🏽♀️ Very Distasteful & I’ll Never Come Back This Overall Visit Was A Total Waste Of My Day!

While visiting Houston, this restaurant was recommended by our friends to join them for dinner. The main dining area is a bit quaint. My husband and I split the dish of Chicken and Waffle. My friend allowed me to taste her Shrimp and Grits. Everything was very delicious. Plus they made me the perfect Arnold Palmer beverage. While enjoying my food, I also enjoyed the old school R&B music the establishment was playing.

Wonderful spot. Food was delicious 😋 drinks were great. Definitely a place to try and I will be back. Kyle Turner was performing that night, of course he did a great job. Great date night or girls night 😎😊!!!!!!!

this is a great lunch buffet spot in midtown Houston. Reasonable price, great choices, easy parking. Definitely want to try the evening dinner menu soon.

I read many reviews which were hit or miss and decided to take the chance and reserve for my husband's birthday anyway. We're glad we did. I'm not a fan of seafood/crawfish and the food was excellent! The mac and cheese balls are off the chain.
When we arrived at 8:00 on a Saturday it did seem like senior citizen happy hour. The live band started soon after and the crowd changed to 30s and 40s. This is the age group that could really appreciate the band. It was loud (but most bands are), save long conversations for in between sets. Service was on point. Phil and Derek's is definitely a place to go hang out with friends, enjoy early dinner or cocktails and jazz.

Small space; worked well, big on Wow! It was/is truly worth it, to visit! I do plan to return. Great live music; Cassandra Tyson, rendered smooth Jazz vocals supported by equally great musicians.The food and drink offerings were very good. The atmosphere was very comfortable. Get there early! We did not have reservation and were seated not far from reserved tables. I personally thank Joseph for his service and attention to detail. He had a mega watt smile.

I do not eat meat but I wanted to go somewhere with a great vibe and plenty music and food!!!!!
This place was amazing!! Food looked good and plentiful. Everyone was happy and dancing!! They sat me right away. Service was fast and efficient!!
A must for BRUNCH!!!! LOBSTER AND WAFFLES!!!!??!!!!

First time visiting Phil and Derek's. I got there early for brunch and there was already a huge crowd. There wasnt a big wait after getting the brunch buffet with mimosas 😍.

Phil & Dereks' is a must try place for dinner. The food is very good to excellent and the Staff is excellent. The only minor critique is that the wine list is a bit limited. Ensure you leave plenty of time for your commute to the restaurant as tables are only held for 10 minutes before being released. We sat at the bar and had a great time. Life entertainment starts at 8:30PM.

Phil & Derek’s surpassed my initial expectations. I was able to fellowship with friends in a manner that surpassed eating the best soul food ever. I enjoyed my interactions in between rating the most tender and flavorful wings, rice and beans, an collard greens ever!! True Southern confronts in the company of friends and mimosas makes for an amazing Sunday Brunch!! Go early. Enjoy your entire two hours. And enjoy your friends amongst the food. You will not be disappointed.

We decided to go here last night. I haven’t been here in a while but I heard that the band was really good. We sat on the patio and shared the table with some more women thinking that they were with us. We didn’t know them but we really had great conversations and shared our food. We don’t meet strangers but I decided to eat the buffet. I’m real critical about food because I come from a family of cooks. But I don’t have anything to say because I tried everything on the buffet. It was all good and the drinks were great. It was much needed girls night out. It’s a great place to go if you are hanging out with your friends or if you with your Boo. We had the best waiter and he got all the orders right without writing them down. So if you wanna eat good and listen to the live band I would definitely say give it a try. Nice atmosphere and a grown folks party.

First time here! An I loved it! It's age appropriate for those late 20s & above. Love the feel of low lighting, jazz, and good food! I'm really gonna go back whenever I get a chance!

The menu is not vegan friendly, but there are some vegetarian options. My husband had the salmon and said it was the best he ever had. The staff is very welcoming!
