      Critics Consensus

Stranger Things transforms itself into a riveting -- if familiar -- summer ride that basks in its neon-laden nostalgia without losing sight of the rich relationships that make the series so endearing.

Camilla Long Times (UK) It isn't the psychokinetic powers that make Stranger Things watchable, it's the suffocating mindlessness of the lovingly recreated small-town landscape. Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Hunter Johnson Dallas Morning News Even while some things go a bit too predictably, the last two episodes tie everything and everyone together in spectacular, emotional fashion. Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The series has a brazen dedication to its influences; it is curated with wide-eyed delight, which matches the young central characters, who despite two go-arounds with a beast from another dimension still sally forth every day with cheerful abandon. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies I just wish a little more energy was spent on the mystery and suspense; the science-fiction and the conspiracies. In other words, I wish it would get back to its Season 1 roots. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Zofia Wijaszka Screen Queens Stranger Things 3 is an extraordinary coming-of-age story (...). The newest season touches on many different subjects: growing up, the evolution of pop culture, and even sexism in the workplace. Rated: A Feb 13, 2022 Full Review Anwen Crawford The Monthly (Australia) The only dimension that Stranger Things exists in is that of advertising. What it sells is more of what we've already got: Pepsi Freedom(TM). Nov 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Charles C After seasons 1 & 2, season 3 picks up nicely but the pace seems to slow down and some episodes feel like they drag on with little advancement in the story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Justin B Questionable character choices but still a strong season. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review David C Season 3 is the low point for Stranger Things. That being said it is still Stranger Things. Season 3's main failing is anachronistic tone at times. 1985 was not a time where every suburban kid was wearing the latest bright color trends. The echoes of the 70s were strong. Also people were more down to earth, frugal, families were bigger and hand me downs were a thing. The new characters are interesting, sometimes the characters are a bit contrived though. Steve's arc is a bit of a disappointment and he doesn't feel like the Steve we've been seeing grow for the last two seasons. Overall this is an important part of the series, but the execution lacked and some of the writing and story elements were weaker. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Nay N Good season but definitely has lost that dark 80's thriller movie feel. I could tell they are going a different direction or at least it seems to be. Mike was such a brat in this which to me was out of character. Even El was different at the beginning. Definitely don't like this season as much as the others. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Braxton M I loved this season a lot. Loved the mall a lot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review Carolina P I really liked this season. It’s a bit different, maybe because this one is set in the summer, but overall amazing. Steve was once again one of the best characters, with the addition of Robin make an insuperable pair. Billy’s character got way deep on this one and his storyline made me cry. I wish the after credits scene at the end didn’t exist because it ruined the emotions the final scenes had developed. Overall another terrific season. Special mention: the singing scene with Dustin and his girlfriend Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
