It's no secret that Charlie Sheen's personal life is tumultuous at best and a raging dumpster fire at worst. His relationship with his ex-wife Brooke Mueller was pretty much the same. But it didn't start out that way. The pair were introduced to each other in 2006 by actress Rebecca Gayheart shortly after Sheen wrapped up his divorce and child-custody battle with ex-wife Denise Richards. And although people didn't know much about Brooke Mueller, it was reported that she was not part of the film and TV industry and dabbled as a real estate investor.

Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen's relationship progressed pretty quickly though, with the actor proposing to her in 2007 with a $500,000 diamond ring and the couple later tying the knot in May 2008. Rebecca Gayheart was present at their small, 60-person wedding ceremony, along with her actor husband Eric Dane. The breakneck speed didn't abate once the couple got married though. Brooke Mueller was pregnant with Charlie Sheen's twin sons soon after their wedding and gave birth to Bob and Max in March 2009. But things started to go downhill from there.

The couple got into a serious domestic violence situation on Christmas morning that same year, during which police were called. Long story short, Mueller and Sheen filed for divorce in November 2010. But things got murkier pretty quickly.

During Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller's divorce proceedings, Mueller sought primary custody of their sons, Bob and Max. But after she checked into rehab in December 2010, Sheen's representatives tried to use that to get Sheen primary custody of the kids.

The court denied both Sheen and Mueller, granting them joint custody instead, with mandatory routine drug tests. But Mueller was granted physical custody of the boys, so they would continue to live with her.

Things became concerning very quickly though when Mueller got involved in an altercation in December 2011 and was arrested. She checked herself into a long-term, in-patient sobriety center soon.

By May 2013, the Department of Child and Family Services of L.A. County removed her sons from her home and gave Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards temporary custody of the children.

Richards initially welcomed the boys who were step-siblings to her own daughters with Sheen, but later wrote a letter to DCFS to remove the boys from her home alleging they were “violent and sadistic.” She, however, showed support to Sheen when he tried once again to gain full custody of his sons with Mueller.

The boys were living with their grandparents on Mueller's side at the time all this was happening.

Mueller has been in and out of rehab centers more than 19 times to date. And according to The Blast, after Mueller checked herself into a treatment facility in 2019, Sheen started co-parenting their sons with the kids' grandparents.

“Between myself and the boys’ two amazing sets of grandparents, we continue to seamlessly love, shelter, and protect Bob and Max from the haphazard choices and unsightly behavior their mom refuses to extinguish once and for all,” Sheen said.

“These wonderful boys need their mom ... and hopefully one day soon, they will finally have one. Until then, on every front, we got this.”

How Much Does Charlie Sheen Pay Brooke Mueller?

At their initial divorce settlement, Charlie Sheen had agreed to pay Brooke Mueller $55,000 per month for child support. But he later sought to reduce the monthly payments to both his ex-wives Mueller and Richards in August 2018.

According to Sheen, he didn't have a steady income anymore and was finding it difficult to secure work since his internet meltdowns from earlier had gotten him blacklisted.

"I have been unable to find steady work, and have been blacklisted from many aspects of the entertainment industry,” the court documents read. “All of this has resulted in a significant reduction in my earnings."

His legal representatives also argued that with Mueller checked into rehab she didn't need a monthly child support payment. They said Sheen would continue to pay for the children's medical and school expenses, as well as the $30,000 mortgage, taxes, and insurance for the home they shared with their mother, which he had been doing all these years.

The case went on for a long time and reached a conclusion in April 2022 with an undisclosed settlement between Sheen and Mueller in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

As for his other ex-wife, the court allowed Sheen to stop paying child support to Richards.

Charlie And Brooke Aren't On Good Terms Today

Given Brooke Mueller's continued problems with staying sober and all the legal battles she and her ex-husband Charlie Sheen have been in, the two are not really on good terms even today.

But it appears that Sheen has mellowed a lot over the years, with a source close to him telling PageSix that he will not seek primary custody of his sons because he doesn't want their mother to go into a shock-induced “tailspin” once again.

“He’s worried it will send her into a worse tailspin,” the source said in 2019. “If he would seek sole custody, there would be a replay of all of his deeds over the years.”

The source also revealed another reason why Sheen sought to reduce child support payments to Mueller to zero around that time.

“Charlie is very upset over the situation. Basically, he feels [Mueller] is using the child-support money to get high.”

After Sheen and Mueller reached a settlement in their child support case, not much has been heard from her. So people don't know what Mueller is doing now.
