Lorez Alexandria

She is known as one of the most gifted underrated jazz singers of the 20th century.

Dolorez Alexandria-Turner was born August 14, 1929, in Chicago, IL. In 1978, Lorez was interviewed by Terry Gross, where she discussed her early life singing in the church along with a local acapella group. She stated she doesn’t see herself to be known as a Gospel Singer. Her recording career started in 1957 and recorded her debut album entitled, This Is Lorez, with King Records.

Around the mid-1960s she was established in Los Angeles, CA. Later on in her career, she signed with many other labels such as Argo Records, Impulse Records, Discovery Records, Trend Records, and more.
May 22, 2001, she passed away in Los Angeles, CA.
