Carrizozo Area Business and Home Owners

The Carrizozo Fire Department has received an updated ISO PPC (Public Protection Classification) rating to a 5/5X. This improved rating can have an impact on lowering your insurance premiums!!! ISO’s PPC program plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies -- most U.S. insurers use PPC information as part of the decision-making process in deciding what business to write, coverage to offer or prices to charge for personal and commercial property insurance. It could be advantageous to notify your insurance carrier of this improved rating. Please be advised this new rating takes effect June 1, 2017. If you would like a copy of the letter to provide to your insurance company, contact LeeRoy Zamora, Jr. @ lzamorajr@lincolncountynm.gov to request one, and an emailed copy of the classification letter will be sent to you.

ANIMAL CONTROL

Carrizozo residents are required to have proof of rabies shots as well as a City license for their dogs and cats.
Take proof of the rabies shots to the Police Department to get a license -- $3 per year for Spayed/Neutered animals and $5 if the animal has not been.
The City license expires when the rabies license expires, so owners need to start over at the Police Department to renew licenses with rabies shot proof.

Town of Carrizozo Message:

March 13, 2018 Dear Carrizozo Residents,

The Carrizozo Police Department announces a new initiative as part of a City Wide Spring Clean-up with the underlying objective of beautifying Carrizozo. Accordingly, we will be visiting and photographing properties within the town limits. We want to do our part to notify and assist town residents in complying with Town Ordinance 2011-03, Article 6, General Nuisances. This ordinance provides a definition for public nuisances such as garbage, rubbish, brush, unsanitary premises, and especially outdoor automotive storage. We want to do our part to aid in this clean-up campaign and help Carrizozo grow. A copy of the ordinance referred to is available at Town Hall.

Initially, officers of the Carrizozo Police Department, who are specifically charged by town government with the enforcement of all town ordinances, will be visiting properties along the Highway 54 and Highway 380 corridors. Over the coming days, we will meet individually with home owners within those specific neighborhoods to discuss compliance matters and to document any potential issues. Owners will be given 30 days to mitigate these matters and after that time period, if sufficient progress has not been made or if property members refuse to work with the police department towards mitigation, a citation may be issued to the non-compliant property owners at the discretion of the police department. In time the initiative will move out into adjacent neighborhoods and eventually, the entire town.

I am aware that in some elderly households or single family living situations, the clean-up of properties may present a tremendous physical or financial hardship. This department stands ready to assist in those situations. We have also noticed some homes and properties have reached a critical condition regarding the accumulation of large amounts of trash and garbage. These specific situations can breed rodents, disease, odors and health and safety issues for owners and adjacent residents. These code violations also create a negative image of our community to Carrizozo visitors. Since I have been appointed to my position here, many residents have visited our department to ask if we could take the necessary actions to help clean up our town. We are ready, willing and able to do our part, but we need your help.

I encourage you to take advantage of the Town of Carrizozo “Free Trash Saturday,” when you can take solid waste, metal, tires and yard waste to the McBride Convenience Center on the south end of E Ave at no charge. Free Trash Saturdays are the third Saturday of each month from 8 AM to Noon. March 17, April 21, May 19 are the next Free Trash dates.

Please feel free to contact me as necessary to discuss this initiative or your individual situation relative to compliance at 575-648-2351.

Respectfully,

Thomas M. Gavin Chief of Police, Carrizozo Police Department
