Sarah Vaughan, often known as “The Divine One” or “Sassy,” left an indelible mark on the jazz world with her unparalleled talent and distinctive voice. As Will Friedwald aptly describes, “From the moment she won the Apollo Theater amateur contest at age 18, Sarah Vaughan immediately joined the pantheon of great jazz singers.”
