- Fane BabanulRishon Lezion, Israel2,081 contributionsCours Mirabeau is the wide main street of the Aix-en-Provence old town. Nothing exceptional. Provides access to the tourist neighbourhoods.Written April 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- alina maria cBucharest, Romania25 contributionsI loved Aix's old city center. I walked from the train station aprox. 10 minutes and arrived to " Fontaine de la Rotonde"- artisanal fountain. I crossed on the other side and the old city unveiled his beauty. Old stone streets you can walk and enjoy the architecture. You can also take one of the 3 mini bus lines that are part of the city bus fleet- Max capacity -6 pers. The city hall is situated here, along with a library that hosts cats and really good pastry places.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kay13Paris, France6 contributionsWorth visiting despite no ongoing exhibition. The audio-guided tour is well designed (available in French and English), and the short film about Paul Cézanne was great and a highlight of the visit (the film is in French with English subtitles).Written November 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PmmaloPalm Springs, CA96 contributionsWe're so happy we stopped at Chateau La Coste on our waying into Provence. The whole property is an architecture masterpiece, including art galleries, sculptures, hotels, restaurants and of course a vineyard. We spent a few hours here but could have spent much more. Worth the price of admission. Highly recommend!Written May 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DuncanTCHEast Greenbush, NY1,499 contributionsAs a couple of the previous reviews have pointed out, the Cathedrale St. Sauveur isn't much to look at from the outside, but the inside is a completely different story.
Interestingly, we entered from a side door at the right, not the main church entrance (maybe that's only used for holy occasions). But immediately your in the baptismal area, complete with an emersion fount from the 6th century!! There's a modern one there too, showing pictures of recent cerimonies.
The interior architecture of the church is simple, high gothic with vaulted ceilings. But the details of the carvings are incredible and the real highlight is the amazing artwork placed throughout the nave. Make sure to visit the sacred tomb on the right hand side.
Definitely a great place to stop, visit, relax and reflect.Written July 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. After visiting his studio and the places in town connected with him, it was great to come and see a few of his paintings.
The museum is small but there is a terrific collection of antiquities, medieval and classical works.
The museum is in the old town and in a lovely area.Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joanne FTampa, FL725 contributionsWe are big fans of Vasarely and had seen a fantastic exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in the spring, so we were very excited to visit this museum again. Sadly, many of the works are being refurbished, so some display areas were closed. However, Vasarely's work is just amazing and the paintings displayed are just brilliant. I hope more visitors to Aix-en-Provence make an effort to see this incredible art space dedicated to an awesome artist.Written January 29, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OnaturelOslo, Norway157 contributionsIt is a good visit to learn how they make the calissons. We were on our own and it was fine, glad we didn’t pay for a guided visit.
The virtual calisson making is a fun machine and you get a mini-calisson as a reward.
The shop is nice, but prices are higher than your regular supermarket. You though get some varieties and flavours that I have not seen in the stores.Written November 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The second time that we came, we were on a cruise and the day in port didn't align with the markets, so missed them entirely. Vowing not to let that happen again, we intentionally scheduled our stay in Aix to align with the markets...and once again we were not disappointed.
Aix's markets are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and actually there are multiple markets throughout the city....clothing in one area, handicrafts in another, produce is a couple more. All are fantastic and all offer great buys and opportunities for learning. The produce available is unbelievable and if you want herbs, this is the place to get them. We purchased a huge kilo bag of herb du provence, which we divided up at home and gave out as gifts.
Definitely the markets should be a "must see" if your in Aix and, if possible, definitely schedule your visit to align with market days.Written July 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We started off here and then walked through the town stopping at the house where he was born, his art school, where he was baptised and married and ending with his grave.
This is his studio, as he left it. It is quite moving to stand there where he stood, with the huge window and the props for his painting. How wonderful that it is still there.
There is a video showing in the garden shed and you can walk through the garden.

On Saturday of our stay, we decided to hit all of the markets (a must see) as well as explore the city further. Even though we had been to Aix several times before, there were sites, like this one, that we had previously missed.
City hall was especially fun to visit on Saturdays because the produce market is held directly in front of the building. It make for a great scene with the historic old building in the background and stalls of beautiful fruits and vegetables in the foreground!
The building is really beautiful on the outside and the clock tower is its obvious focal point. Being a Saturday, we didn't have an opportunity to go inside, nor do I know if the interior is open to the public (outside of city business). But the exterior is definitely worth a walk around and makes for some great photos.Written July 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
