Why don’t they film in 4K?

I’ve seen shitty podcasts with a thousand likes, yet they’re shooting in 2160p. Why not RLM? I can’t imagine cost is an issue. I wanna see everyone’s greasy pores in HD.

I work with video. They usually have a 3 camera setup each recording ~ 1-3 hours - if all this is shot in full color gradable 4k It'll be an absolute shit ton of data. 4k 60fps prores is around 500gb per hour. Complicates everything and makes everything in production more expensive. Can't edit a 5tb video on your macbook pro from 2021. Youd also not be able to just turn on cameras and leave them there for 3 hours. Theyll overheat, even somewhat expensive cameras are prone to overheating when shooting 4k continously for this long. And for what? Almost absolutely nothing.

Thank you for an insightful answer to my query.

How many more subscribers or patreon subs will filming in 4k bring?

Oh, I know I’d easily pay $19.95 a month!

u/BlancoSuper avatar

Besides you, how many more would pay that much?

From these numbers, clearly more.

What people say and do are not the same. They keep co stant views and their subscribers are still slowly increasing. When they need new cameras they will probably go 4 k, but now there is no need and the cost is not worth it.

RLM is relatively editing intense, at least compared to most longform slop out there. It probably comes down to having to set up new editing PCs and/or using a proxy workflow (which suck ass btw)

Nah I want them to be tape recording

Edited

I was listening to something where they discussed QLED television and realised I have zero interest in further technological developments in flat screen TVs

Whatever TVs were destined to be, they've already achieved that final form

Anything else that happens is just bells and whistles. I feel the same as I did when magazines were trying to convince me I needed a Bluray player, or when an athlete knocks 0.2 of a second off the world record

Rich Evans' nose hairs looked like fuckin' BX cables

My TV already upscales so it looks like it's 4k already.

I'm pissed they're not shooting on VHS anymore. I want them to go a step further back than that, if it doesn't feel like I'm watching a snuff film made by Bagool I'm not watching their shit. 8mm Lawn Mower scene or bust.

I wanna see everyone’s greasy pores in HD

So you do acknowledge yourself that there's no practical reason for it?

Most of the time, I just listen to them, and they watch old shitty movies on VHS. Could be 480 for all I care, lol

Seeing Rich Evan’s in 4K is all the reason we need.

u/ReddsionThing avatar

You're not allowed to see Rich EVANS until you know how to spell his naaaame

Your lack of class is unbecoming.
