Tree Branches and Trash Cans Strewn Across Houston Roads Following Destructive Storm

A local state of disaster was declared for Houston, Texas, on May 17, after at least four people were killed in destructive storms.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire said the city would “create a path for additional authority and resources from both state and federal partners to assist with citywide storm recovery.”

More than one million people were without power on Thursday evening in southeast Texas.

Video from X user Bryan Luhn shows trees toppled in Spring Branch after the storm.

“This blew over my son’s school during his graduation. We’re all good… sheltered in the gym. But Spring Branch is a disaster zone,” he wrote in the post. Credit: Bryan Luhn via Storyful
