All Over: A 97-run win for Delhi Daredevils

What an abject surrender by the Rising Pune Supergiant. They look hopelessly over reliant on Steven Smith. The regular captain wasn't there and the fold for a paltry 108. Amit Mishra and Zaheer finish with three wickets apiece. But the highlight of the day will still be Sanju Samson. We have our first IPL hundred of the season. But this was a rather one-sided game. Pune just didn't turn up. Not only have Delhi completed an impressive victory , they've given their NRR a massive fillip with his 97-run thumping.

Like a pack of cards

A second for Amit Mishra as Rajat Bhatia holes out to long-on. Zaheer then comes back in to the attack and gets Deepak Chahar for his third wicket off the night. The end is nigh for Pune. Abject!

Dhoni falls; RPS staring down the barrel

More success for Delhi as they appear to be heading towards a big one. Amit Mishra, who was taken to the cleaners by Jadhav the other day, starts better today. Dhoni plays a little helicopter shot but finds deep mid-wicket to a nicety. Another low score for Pune!

What's at stake for Dhoni?

There's been some talk off late about Dhoni going off the boil with the bat. His first two innings in IPL 2017 have been unflattering to say the least. He will do well to get some runs under the belt. Who knows? It could also help RPS on the run-rate scale, should it go to that at the business end of the tournament.

Half the team down: Du Plessis and Stokes depart

Getting awfully ugly for the home side. The two top foreign imports, du Plessis and Ben Stokes have fallen and RPS have only 54 on the board. Du Plessis attempts a paddle scoop and and feathers an edge to the keeper.

Almost immediately after Stokes nicks Pat Cummins to Rishabh Pant, leaving the side reeling with a mountain to climb.

Wickets: Zaheer has two, Morris gets Tripathi

Bad, bad start for Pune. Mayank Agarwal is undone by Zaheer's slower one. Looks to go over the top on the off-side, ends up miscuing it horribly. Can only find the extra-cover fielder. Both openers gone now.

Make that three now... Rahul Tripathi hits Chris Morris for a couple of fours and then is hurried by the pace of a Morris short-one. Top edges the pull and Nadeem settles under it.

Chase: Rahane falls cheaply

What a start for Delhi after that flourish with the bat. Zak strikes straight away. Rahane looks to go aerial over the bowler's head. Miscues it horribly and it's that man, Samson, who gets under it to sting Delhi early in the chase.

Faf du Plessis joins Agarwal in the middle. Remember there's no Smith today!

Morris blitz takes Delhi Daredevils to 205

Wow! What a finish for Delhi. Chris Morris blitz has taken Delhi past the 200-mark. Some poor bowling from Pune at the death. 45 runs in the last two overs as Zampa and Ben Stokes offered a flurry of freebies. Morris finishes with 38 off 9 and a SR of 422.22 - the highest in IPL by any batsman with at least 30 runs.

Sanju Samson scores the first century of IPL 2017

Take a bow, Samson. This has been some innings from the young batsman. Gets to the feat with a straight six off Adam Zampa. 62-ball hundred for him. Takes his helmet off. Relief more than ecstasy in that face. A smile escapes his face as Corey Anderson engulfs him in a hug.

Samson falls immediately after, cleaned up by a zooter from Zampa. But that only brings Chris Morris to the middle, who hits two fours and a six off his first four deliveries.

Samson on the charge:

This is top class batting from Sanju Samson. After that period of consolidation, when he let Pant take centre stage, he's absolutely come back roaring. Ashok Dinda has been taken to the cleaners. Is the first century of IPL 2017 coming up?

Run out ends Pant's stay:

Some tight bowling from Ben Stokes forces Rishabh Pant into attempting a non-existent single. Good work from Mayank Agarwal at backward point. Swoops in on the ball and knocks the stumps over at the non-striker's end with Pant well out of his crease. Gone for a 22-ball 31.

50 for Samson:

A monkey off the back. Has been some time coming this for this young Keralite. He's struggled in the domestic circuit since his early days of promise. Other keepers, including his non-striker Pant, have gone above him in the pecking order. 41-ball half-century for him. The second part of the innings took some time. But I guess this should free him up. Delhi set up for a good total.

Pant starts rapidly:

Starting from where he left the other night, is Rishabh Pant. He's made sure that there's no loss of momentum since that Billings dismissal. He's gone after Rajat Bhatia's cutters, slamming his Delhi senior for a couple of sixes. His aggression has done well to offset Samson's period of consolidation.

Samson:

Powerplay: 35 off 19 (6x4)

Since: 13 off 19 (0x4)

Spin strikes: Tahir gets Billings

Unnecessary from Sam Billings. Samson was going so well but he looks to attack from his end as well. Charges Tahir but the ball slips under his bat to disturb his furniture. Tahir is off on one of his runs. End of a rapid 69-run stand. Enter Rishabh Pant.

Now Billings gets in to the act

Quite a start this from RPS. Sam Billings feasts on couple of leg stump half-volleys from Chahar and Pune have 62 on the board in the powerplay. What will Rahane do? Surely time for spin now! They have two leggies

Samson off to a sparkling start

This is the Sanju we know well. Languid and pristine. Just easing to his drives. Some of his off-side play has been fabulous. Delhi off to a good start despite that early loss of Tare.

Wicket: Early strike for Deepak Chahar

Second failure for Aditya Tare this season. Reaches out to this nice away swinger from Deepak Chahar. The feather is gobbled up by Dhoni. A wicket off his first delivery for Chahar.

Sanju Samson starts with two attractive square drives. Big innings for him. Has flattered to deceive off late.

Early signs:

There is some movement for Dinda. The odd ball appears to be dying on Dhoni. Testing time for Billings and Tare. The average first innings score at the venue is 172. So bide your time and the runs should come.

Steve Smith was ruled out of the game with a stomach bug.

Toss: Smith ruled out by stomach bug; RPS opt to bowl

Here's a good news and a bad news for your Rising Pune Supergiant fans. The good news first - The hosts have won a crucial toss on a field-first surface and Pune will chase.

The bad news is that the toss was won by Ajinkya Rahane (yes, not Dhoni) and not Steve Smith. The Aussie skipper has been laid low by a stomach bug. How big a loss is that?! Faf du Plessis comes in for him.

Adam Zampa comes in for Daniel Christian and Manoj Tiwary, who unfortunately lost his father today, will be replaced by Rahul Tripathi.

Only one change for Delhi. Carlos Brathwaite will sit this one and Corey Anderson will take his place. So, still no Rabada.

Rising Pune Supergiant (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane(c), Faf du Plessis, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni(w), Rajat Bhatia, Deepak Chahar, Adam Zampa, Ashok Dinda, Imran Tahir

Delhi Daredevils (Playing XI): Aditya Tare, Sam Billings, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant(w), Corey Anderson, Chris Morris, Pat Cummins, Amit Mishra, Shahbaz Nadeem, Zaheer Khan(c)

Would you agree?

RPS v DD - Build Up:

Hello and Welcome to Game 9 of IPL 2017. Yes, the clash between Rising Pune Supergiant and Delhi Daredevils should round off the first week of the tournament. It features two teams that will look to hit back after facing defeats in the previous games.

RPS, courtesy Steve Smith, made a fast start with a win over Mumbai Indians in the last game at Pune. But they were humbled by Glenn Maxwell and the KXIP on their first journey away from home.

Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, will wonder how they didn't win their season opener at Bangalore. Rishabh Pant was magnificent under tough circumstances and the bowlers led by Chris Morris were excellent. The middle-order though left much to be desired.

Rising Pune are yet to taste defeat against Delhi Daredevils, having won both the encounters last year.
