Well OPL wise, this method actually wasn't really needed, since ps2rd is already integrated on OPL. But, it's still useful for games that crashes with it (Yes I'm looking at you, Jak series!)
With ps2rd you got to enter the cheats you want manually, where this method you have a gui at least to make it less painful for the user. But still good to know for games that do crash. 😊
Context:
I made this video after having so many users with issues of black screen with codebreaker usb that I finally decided to make this video.
As always, I know there are some smart cookies on this reddit, so what I showed is probably old news. But for those who are still new to the ps2 or didn't know this existed, then I'm glad to have helped you out.
Anyway, that's all for now, and be proud to be a ps2 gamer in 2020!
Can't seem to get the cheat list to show up. Tried on internal hard drive and USB stick :(
Not sure what to say, if you have latest. Elf and it doesn't run off a compatible USB drive from within ulaunchelf, then something else is wrong.
From internal hard disk it doesn't work for sure. Tried everything. From USB, I tried a different stick and managed to get one to work with some games. I hope they can update this to work from the internal hdd one day.
How to add cheat using pc notepad or any other options
Best to check the github
To add cheats you need to:
unzip CheatDatabase.zip to get the .txt file inside to edit it.
get the desired cheats from a website like Game*acking.
make sure you copy the correct RAW format called "ps2rd".
copy/paste the codes into the CheatDatabase.txt
compress your CheatDatabase.txt back to a zip file.
put it in your memory card with the .ini and .elf files.
Enjoy!
I've tried to find that GameDatabase.zip around the internet I've even used a 2nd search engine to find it but no luck unfortunately, the only thing coming close to it is finding mentions of the file. I had to even find out the name of it from a video in another language since it's almost as if it's forbidden for anyone to know about it outside of the old people that just keep it, would you be okay with sharing it with me please? The thing itself works but without the database the cheat engine becomes useless and I've only manually entered in one game so far.
Link is in description of video. First one.
The CheatDatabase.zip I've mentioned is inside CheatDevicePS2-v1.7.5.zip
Thank you greatly I appreciate it I think I gave up at some point that I literary thought they would provide just the ELF file and that's it but I got it now and after extracting it seems to have a lot of games. I hope it will actually load the file now I'll keet it in the root of my FAT32 External until I get my internal HDD and just hope it works that way.
I got an error where cheat device can't open read/write cheatdatabase.zip
I was trying to look to see if its possible to use Action Replay Max disc to run with OPL but this Cheat Device seems just as good, so all you need to do is run Cheat Device, Select Cheats, boot OPL, select your game and as long as its the correct region it will have your cheats automatically applied?
There's nothing else you need to enter in settings or anything?
