A teacher is accused of getting pregnant with a schoolboy while she was suspended from her job for having sex with another of pupils from her school.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, admitted to ruining her ‘dream job’ by breaking safeguarding rules through maintaining contact with two of her students on Snapchat and having them at her flat in Salford Quays.

But she referred to it as stupid ‘mistakes’, denying she broke the law with either boy, aged 15 and 16.

Joynes denies any sexual activity took place with Boy A, 15, despite his semen being found on her bedsheets.

She had already been suspended from her high school job and was on bail for alleged activity with Boy A when she allegedly took the virginity of Boy B, who she became pregnant by.

The teacher denies any offence was committed with Boy B, 16, either as the relationship only began once she was no longer in a position of trust as she had lost her job and he had left the school.

Prosecutor Joe Allman questioned this version of events, asking Joynes: ‘So, even though you have been having boy B around your flat since the age of 15, sex only began within five days of being dismissed?’

Joynes replied: ‘Yes.’

Continuing the cross-examination on Tuesday, Mr Allman said: ‘You did not find him sexy until the point it became legal.’

The prosecution highlighted ‘similarities’ between the cases of Boy A and Boy B.

Both were 15 when Joynes started taking them each to her flat, Allman said.

She had allegedly been communicating with them both on Snapchat, where messages are deleted and are unable to be recovered by police.

The activity was kept secret from both of the boys’ parents, and both flirted with her, Mr Allman told the court.

Boy A called Joynes ‘sexy’, while Boy B sent her a message saying ‘get your tits out’.

Asked by Mr Allman how she replied, Joynes said: ‘Laughing faces.’

Mr Allman highlighted their age, saying, ‘Can we remind ourselves, this is a 15-year-old boy’, to which Joynes replied: ‘I know, yes.’

Rebecca and her father look in different directions, their mouths pursed, as they arrive at court.

Boy B told the jury that Joynes straddled him and kissed him at her flat, and, on a later occasion, had full sex with him, both while he was still at school.

This came after Joynes had already been arrested, suspended from work and bailed while police investigated the allegations concerning Boy A.

Joynes explained that, because she was lonely, she had liked the attention of Boy B contacting her to see how she was, saying a friendship grew from there.

Joynes told the court: ‘Speaking to my family, I had made mistakes, I had basically ruined my chances with my dream job.’

Instead of seeking the company of her supportive family, a sister and a best friend back home on the Wirral, Joynes went for walks with a 15-year-old boy who would visit her flat in Salford, Mr Allman said.

The prosecutor asked: ‘How on Earth can that second scenario be a draw for you?’

Joynes replied: ‘I was stupid but I did choose that option, obviously I was breaking my bail conditions.’

However, she claimed the relationship with Boy B did not become sexual until after she was no longer a teacher.

She said the relationship later soured and Boy B became ‘controlling’.

But Mr Allman questioned Joynes’ logic, saying: ‘Let’s look at the reality of the situation. You were 29, living in a flat, had a good income, drove an Audi A1.

‘He was a child, you were an adult. He was a pupil, you were a teacher.

‘He lived with his mum and dad, they were not supposed to know about your liaisons with him. Who was controlling who?’

The jury heard Joynes and Boy B argued over whether to abort the baby Joynes had become pregnant with as a result of their sexual relations.

Boy B claims Joynes applied emotional pressure on him to continue their relationship after he called her a ‘paedo’ and told her to find someone her own age as he tried to end it.

In a letter to Boy B, Joynes wrote: ‘Every inch of you is perfect. You are all I ever dream about.’

She told the court: ‘This was a year after he left school. I was in love with him. I was pregnant with his child.’

Joynes faces six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, including two while being a person in a position of trust, all of which she denies.

The trial was adjourned until Wednesday morning.
