We love a good train station feature and are kvelling over seeing it in Rough Diamonds. Antwerp-Centraal is a century-old steel and stone structure rightfully referred to as the Railway Cathedral by residents. You’ll also hear Antwerp-Centraal railway station called “Middenstatie”.

Most of Rough Diamonds was filmed at various locations within Antwerp’s Diamond Quarter. The Diamond Quarter is adjacent to the Antwerp-Centraal train station and worth a stroll, even if you’re just window shopping.

🕍 Machzikei Hadas Oosten Shul is a gorgeous synagogue just off the Antwerpen Zurenborg tram stop. This Art Nouveau style building was recently renovated and is the main synagogue for the Antwerp Orthodox Jewish community.  

💎 DIVA is a museum for diamonds, jewelery, and silver. Located near the medieval Het Steen fortress, exhibits are on display and there are also summer workshops available. Unique guided tours range from audio tours to sensory tours and family tours. 

✡️ Monument Gedeporteerde Joodse Bevolking is a monument and memorial park near Machzikei Hadas Oosten Shul commemorating the Jewish Antwerp population that was deported by the Nazis during WWII.  

✡️ Kazerne Dossin is a new memorial, museum, and research center dedicated to the Holocaust and human rights. It’s located south of Antwerp, north of Brussels, in Mechelen (closest train station: Mechelen-Nekkerspoel).

What is Netflix Rough Diamonds about? 

Set in Antwerp’s Diamond Quarter, Rough Diamonds sees the return of estranged son, Noah, to the family business as it spirals out of control. Noah, who left behind his family and Orthodox religion, investigates his brother’s apparent suicide and attempts to pull the diamond company out of the shady mob deal its spiraled into.

Netflix’s Rough Diamonds stars Kevin Janssens as Noah, Ini Massez as Adina, Robbie Cleirin as Eli, and Yona Elian-Keshet as Sarah. Rough Diamonds also features Jereon Van der Ven, Marie Vinck, Els Dottersmans, Tine Joustra, Casper Knopf, and Vincent Van Sande.

What language is Rough Diamonds filmed in? 

Listen to Rough Diamonds without subtitles and you may have trouble keeping track of the dialogue. That’s because Rough Diamonds is filmed in four different languages. Flemish and Yiddish are the two primary languages spoken, while the show also has some English and French dialogue.  

Will there be a Season 2 of Rough Diamonds? 

As of writing, Netflix’s Rough Diamonds has yet to be renewed for Season 2. We hope the Wolfson family gets a second run. While Season 1 did end on a conclusive note, there is certainly opportunity for the story to continue.
