Joker: Folie à Deux star Steve Coogan has teased his surprise role opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the DC movie’s first trailer.

“I have a very interesting scene with Joaquin Phoenix,” Coogan said to Deadline on the red carpet of the BAFTA TV Awards. “I play a CNN-type reporter who interviews him in his cell. Beyond that, I don’t know. I’ve not seen it, so I’m as in the dark as anyone else.”

The British comedian and multi-time BAFTA nominee is one of several new additions to the Joker sequel cast which includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey are all playing undisclosed roles in the film. Aside from the few details regarding Coogan’s role, the rest of the cast have yet to publicly reveal their characters. Additionally, Zazie Beetz reprises her role from the previous installment as the title character’s neighbor Sophie Dumond.

What happens in Joker: Folie à Deux?

While details about Joker: Folie à Deux’s plot remain under wraps, it is expected to continue from the previous installment’s conclusion with Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) incarcerated at Arkham Asylum and crossing paths with psychiatrist-turned-girlfriend Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga). The $200 million budgeted sequel plans to go in the direction of a jukebox musical taking inspiration from Francis Ford Coppola’s infamous 1982 flop One from the Heart. Original Joker director Todd Phillips returns at the helm with a screenplay by Phillips and Scott Silver.

Joker: Folie á Deux is scheduled for release on October 4th.
