Underrated movie. Good story, spectacular visuals, pushed boundaries on visual effects, even if not all of it succeeded (CLU)

I throw it on if I want some eye candy.

At least Clu was written in such a way that the uncanny valley made sense.

I think it’s properly rated. Yes, the visuals were phenomenal (minus the deaging), but the story isn’t great.

And STILL no 4k HDR release, of all the movies that would benefit ...

u/Dysan27 avatar

They probably didn't master the visual effects for it. So to do a proper HDR they would have to go back and re master all those scenes.

When this was released I had the Tron legacy backdrop for my Xbox. It was the city with all the bikes racing towards it. The soundtrack is still amazing.

I remember having some dynamic themes on my PS3 at the time

I miss that. Can you do that with the new consoles? I still have my ps4 and Xbox one. I haven’t moved up yet (poor)

I don't know

Joseph Kosinski is pretty under-rated, alhough he finally got some decent acclaim with 'Maverick'

Rewatched Oblivion the other night (another Kosinski flick) and its also visually impressive.

I think Legacy didn't get the acclaim it deserved because Bridges / Flynn's philopsphical dilema didn't resonate. The pursuit of perfection will always fail. I though it was the best part of the film. Score was awesome as well.

Agreed! I wish they would have explored the philosophical aspect's more. There's so much there that could have been explored: the dangers of the pursuit of perfection at all cost, the definition of life, an allegory for The Creator (God) & His Son, the dangers of sentient AI, and the pursuit of artificial relationships versus real ones. The one thing that frustrated me about Legacy is all the wasted opportunity. But even then I did enjoy it.

What you said x 1000

I remember Kosinski saying something to the effect was he was trying to please a lot of parties, and even though he wanted the film to go in a more metaphysical direction he didn't want to make it 'his' film.

I also don't think Garret Hedlund did the film any favors. He was OK, but a bit weak as soon as Bridge's stepped into the frame.

Yeah, I would have liked the film to be about 10-15 minutes longer and go a little more metaphysical. This would have still allowed for a lot of fun with Daft Punk but given Bridges room to expand on his concepts vs just come off as an angry hippy.

End scene with Clu was still amazing along with the score. On a very short list of films that were amazing on IMAX.

Can’t decide if I’m eager for Ares, or dreading it. My emotions are like an excitable bit.

u/excelance avatar

I'm 90% dread and 10% eager. It's Disney after all and they've totally lost their way.

I just saw that they cast Jared Leto as the titular character. Why do they keep putting that creep in movies?

u/excelance avatar

For Hollywood and Disney, Jared's action against underage girls is a feature not a bug.

And now I want to watch it again…or just watch the club scene, that will probably scratch the itch.

Visually interesting but narratively vapid and Sam Flynn was such a badly written character

u/Clem_bloody_Fandango avatar

The real visual spectacle was Michael Sheen's body suit. He was also the film's best actor.

Should have been the big bad, IMHO.

Same club owner character, but also a secret puppeteer; maybe the last of the Iso hunters, who set things in motion to bring Quorra out of hiding.

I was wondering if they would include the Olivia Wilde fetish-lite couch shot. Yep: 5:01.

TRON: ARTSTATION

The audio was more impressive than the visual.

It gets better by time. Sad Disney can't make stuff like this anymore.
