About
One of Iceland’s must-dos, the geothermal Blue Lagoon is famous for its ethereal milky-blue waters. Remaining at 102 degrees fahrenheit all year round, the waters are rich in silica and minerals. Soak in the lagoon, slather on a silica mud mask and enjoy the complimentary drink at the swim-up bar. Choose from the basic ‘Comfort’ package, the ‘Premium’ package or the ‘Luxury: Retreat Spa’ package that includes five hours at the spa. Make the Blue Lagoon your first or last stop from the airport, or combine it with a tour that includes Kerid Volcanic Crater and the Golden Circle. – Tripadvisor

Great & Relaxing experience / Friendly Greeter
The visit to the Blue Lagoon was our second visit at a geothermal hot spring (the first one being the Secret Lagoon further inland). The facilities at the Blue Lagoon are very nice, although a bit crowded at times. However, once you are in the water this is soon forgotton and you just soak and relax. What made this visit a particularly pleasant experience was the interactions with our greeter Daniel, he took the time to chat with us about his experiences in Iceland and patiently took our pictures and answered our questions

Blue Lagoon On a Rainy Day = Cheerful Day
We (2Adults, 2 Teens) came at 8:00am, and it was perfect! We spent about 2 hours here, then after blow-drying, etc…we headed to Reykjavik. We had the cheapest bundle, which includes a towel, a mud mask, and a drink. The Water was a more milky blue than Myvatn Nature Bath & has Salt water in it. We could see why it was double the price from Myvatn, and can say that it was worth visiting both; it was rainy when we visited the Blue Lagoon, so it made the morning more cheerful. The lagoon also had everything spaced out, so mud masks are at one end & Drinks at another. If you are a DJH member, you can book through Hostelling International’s GetYourGuide for a discount. Free parking was onsite & beautiful views of the milky blue waters are outside. Enjoy!

    Totally fun time was had.
Tourist trap? Yes! Overpriced? Maybe. Total blast of a good time? Absolutely! My family and I had a great time here. My experience was the check-in was easy. The amenities were fine. The time in the pool was fabulous. I believe this place is all about timing. Watch the flow with the crowd and you wait less in line for your drinks and for your masks. At times they were long lines and other times there was no one. It usually corresponds to the top of the hour at the different entry times. Also, people tend to gravitate to the same areas. Explore the whole lagoon and you’ll find little spots of serenity. There’s no pressure on you to leave, stay as long as you like. I thought the premium package was not very valuable. Bring your own robe and slides. the best part about it was the three masks. Everyone in my family considers this one of the highlights of our two week European vacation.

Magical blue lagoon and gourmet lunch at “ lava “ restaurant
Absolute must see and magical experience of the famous geothermal man made lagoon . It’s the after effect of a geothermal power plant that is well worth the visit . We rented a car and drove there from rejkjavik ourselves which is about 45 minutes . Tip: don’t speed on the roads they are well patrolled . It is very cold and windy there usually as it is on a peninsula in the North Atlantic so don’t let the weather in Rejkjavik fool you it can be very different . Tip : admission to the area and cafe complex are free so unless you want to swim in the lagoon you don’t have to pay or stand in line . Tip : reserve a magical lunch at the beautiful “ lava “ restaurant overlooking the lagoon . They serve the best bread and butter with some type of rock salt that is not to be missed . 10 out of 10 experience .

    Must do the Blue Lagoon
We rounded of our trip at the Blue Lagoon, and it did not disappoint. What a fabulous way to relax at the end of a busy tour of Iceland. This geo-thermal spa is special and the biggest compliment we can give it as a family is that no one wanted to get out !

A one-of-kind experience. Very fun but very crowded.
This is a must see/do in Iceland. Only about 20 minutes from the Keflavik airport and about 30 minutes from Reykjavík, it’s easy to get to. By rental car, it’s easy to find, and there’s plenty of free parking. You can also take a taxi or bus, It is very crowded and touristy (the only such place we encountered in Iceland), but the facilities are very nice and it is truly a fun and unique experience. When you arrive, you get an electronic bracelet, which gives you access to a locker, a free drink, and allows you to charge other drinks during your visit. You are first directed to the locker room where you can change and store your things in a private locker. You can then head out to the lagoon, which is like a giant heated pool, where you can relax, get a drink at the swim up bar, or choose from a variety of mud facials at the swim up mask bar. 1 to 2 hours in the water is plenty, then you can enjoy a meal at the casual café or the nicer dine in restaurant. It truly is a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience and well worth doing, but be prepared for the crowds.

    Hype is real
The hype is real. Little expensive but worth it. Can get crowded. It was a great experience I have heard about this place from friends and everything they said is true. Everyone was nice and friendly. Locker rooms are little bit small and crowded. We did the premium option which let us use the robe and came with 3 mask facials and a free drink at the bar. Place is big. Very relaxing and soothing

    Blue Lagoon
Honestly the Blue Lagoon is over hyped but it's still an experience I'm glad I had once. The check in was LONG. There were tons of people everywhere and crazy lines. Make sure to book at least a week in advance as it fills up! Water was gorgeous. The hidden gem is the no cell phones, quiet area. That was easily my favorite place.

    Calming End to My Trip
I know that this place is supposed to be an overpriced tourist trap, but get ready because that's going to be most of what you find in Rekyivik. I went to both Sky and Blue Lagoon and preferred this one much better - yes, it is wildly expensive, but I went before 9am and it was not packed at all. As we were leaving, we did see the lagoon filling up, but it was still not uncomfortably so. I loved the three face masks and I found everything to be clean and organized. The staff seemed professional and all of the facilities were clearly labeled. I loved how the lagoon had a "quiet" section away from the rest of the families and the mask bar. We didn't get to try the restaurant because we left before it opened, but it looked wildly expensive - I think it's worth going, however, because it is part of the experience.

Really a unique experience! Super warm water and the time we went (3 pm) wasn’t overly crowded. The space itself is pretty big and roomy so you don’t feel too close to others. I wore a hat so that my ears/ head wouldn’t get cold and it definitely helps! We were lucky it was a super sunny day and not too windy.

I visited the Blue lagoon on June 3rd, the last day of my Iceland trip . I was so excited to experience the lagoon to see the blue waters and relax then head to the airport for my evening flight. However,it was anything but relaxing, luxurious or beautiful.

To start off the day I booked the bus transfer from Reykavic. I booked the transfer for 7 am, instructions were to be at the bus stop by 6:30. I waited and waited. I tried to call customer service but the call center did not open till 9 am. It starts raining and is very cold while I am waiting. The bus finally gets to the stop at 7:40. They said due to “schedule changes” they moved pickup back 1 hour. Nobody called or notified me. Fine. So we start the journey to the lagoon, it is not a direct transfer. We go to a bus station and get on another bus. Finally we get to blue lagoon around 9:15. My scheduled slot was 8 am so I already missed 1 hr 15.

The blue lagoon itself is blue, it’s extremely crowded with children screaming and loud ongoing construction. There is also trash and scattered cups everywhere around the lagoon.

I paid for the premium package which included 3 face masks which were nice. The robe was nice but no slippers provided.

I had a very delicious lunch at the blue lagoon restaurant which was around $100 for a non alcoholic drink and fish of the day. There is a cafe where they serve 1/2 sandwiches for $30, sushi for $30 and various coffee and snacks which are overpriced.

The sauna was nice but very small and only 1. The steam rooms also nice. But there are not enough for the amount of people they let in.

When it comes time for my transfer to the hotel they say I need to walk to the Silica hotel. I have heavy bags and there was a wind warning that day with crazy winds. So I walk the very long path to the hotel and wait. The time comes around for my bus to be here but it’s still not here. I was beginning to get worried about missing my flight so I ask front desk for help and they say the bus is at the blue lagoon and to walk back. Luckily there was another bus driver who called and asked for other passengers to be picked up at Silica.

I made it to the airport but I could never recommend blue lagoon to anyone. The service was not a luxury even though you pay luxury price. It is crowded, there is trash everywhere and their transportation is unorganized. You could never make me like this place. I do not recommend.

Go with low expectations and you will be fine. Also go because you will feel you missed out if you don’t go. I had watched the YouTube videos with the wonderful choice of “smoothies.” I pictured creamy yummy drinks, we got juice. We also got construction and crowds - nothing relaxing and peaceful. We were good at arrival but when we left they had shirt down that path. We had to walk 15 mins in freezing weather to wait ten minutes for a bus to the parking lot.

The good news, it was clean, warm, three fun face masks and beautiful (minus the construction walls and noise).

We visited four Hot Springs in Iceland. This was third place behind Sky Lagoon and Hvammsvik. Most natural was Hvammsvik most convenient and a bit more posh than Hvammsvik was Sky Lagoon.

Unbelievably overpriced. No wonder they don’t actually show what it is. A large man made pool filled with geothermal waste water from the nearby power plant. No views at all except of the power plant. Go to a pool locals use in Reykjavík and get the same thing only better, for a tiny fraction of the price. Can’t believe how hyped up this dreary‘attraction’ is.

Dear camfeb, Thank you for your recent visit and for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that everyone has different travel preferences, however we'd like to clarify that the Blue Lagoon's milky blue water comes from a unique geological formation, rich in minerals believed to have therapeutic qualities. There are many other lovely geothermal pools in Iceland, which we absolutely recommend anyone to try if they have the opportunity. Public pools can be a great option for a more local experience. Blue Lagoon offers a unique opportunity in a volcanic landscape, and the price reflects the inclusions and amenities. We do sincerely hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland. Have a wonderful day. Best regards, The Blue Lagoon Team

One of those things you just have to do if you go to Iceland. The facilities are very nice and the lagoon is cool. But of all the things we did in Iceland, we found it to be one of the least memorable.

I visited this place on my last day in Iceland. The road to the blue lagoon has been affected by the Grindavik eruption and is dominated by huge walls of black lava. At one point a new gravel russ has been built straight over the lava, to enable access to the blue lagoon,

On arrival the blue lagoon looked more like a power station. It looks very industrial with a crane in the background, the geothermal power station and building work. Check in was fast and we were shown to the male and female changing areas. Only one changing room, so you are expected to get naked in front of everyone else in there. There are showers which you are supposed to have naked before u get in the lagoon. There are shampoo and conditioner in there for afterwards.

We got the basic package that doesn’t include a robe, but this was fine because as soon as you get outside you need to hang up the robe anyway. The majority of people we met there, had just booked the basic package. The water is very warm and it wasn’t too overcrowded. The pool is quite big and relaxing. It was very windy the day we went to the pool was quite wavy. The bar was a bit chaotic, not much organisation with the staff shouting at people. The face masks are got from another bar, where some mask is slapped on your hand!

With the crane in the background pictures don’t look that good. But if you find a spot away from that area, pictures can look nice. The blue lagoon is just a man made pool, with geothermal seawater pumped in to it. Relaxing, but I think it was a bit overpriced at around £80 each. Towels are given to you when you get out of the pool in the changing area.

I liked my experience at the blue lagoon, but if you’re expecting a tropical paradise you might be disappointed.

We visited the Blue Lagoon for 4 hours at opening time recently and loved it. Book direct for the best prices and arrive early if you want to beat the crowds.
The cold beer you got as part of the package was lovely and the mask was fun. We didn’t see the point in paying more, so got the basic comfort package which suited us as you hardly wear a dressing gown anyhow.
Enjoy!

A unique experience. We did the comfort level (entry, one drink, mask), and had a car. Pretty easy to get there/find. Once you check in, they direct you to lockers where you can lock up your things and put on your bathing suit. Your wristband allows you to lock your locker. For women, changing is largely open, but you can go into a little changing room if needed. You must shower before heading to the lagoon. Fun to lounge around in the water. Relaxing. While out in the middle of nowhere, there are several buildings around it, so the views beyond the lagoon were not the best. There are showers, shampoos, lotion, blow dryers when done. Overall, you can’t go to Iceland and not do this.

Close to airport. After we picked up rental car, we drove directly to Blue Lagoon at 8am. It was a relaxing experience. Clean changing room. You could wear your swimsuits while taking showers before entering/back from the pool. There were few life guards standing around the pool. It was definitely worth the price.

The main reason to go to the Blue Lagoon is that when people hear you went to Iceland they will ask you if you went to the Blue Lagoon.

The Lagoon suggests that it is natural hot springs. In fact, it is man-made springs filled with water pumped for use in a nearby - and smelly - geothermal power plant.

This would be ok if it were inexpensive and easy to get to. However, basic admission, which includes a silica mask, a drink and a towel, is about $100, and increases from there with add-on services. And it’s about a $50 taxi each way from the airport or Keflavík. It is 30 miles from Reykjavik.

This would be ok if it was an amazing experience, but it’s mostly soaking in a large bath with some volcanic rocks and footbridges and tinted water for cool photos. The water isn’t that hot, the Lagoon isn’t very deep and the sauna isn’t very hot.

This would be ok if it was a unique experience. But the Sky Lagoon is similarly-priced, newer, nicer and close to Reykjavik. It has a bathing “ritual” with cold plunges and ocean views from the lagoon and sauna. The Blue Lagoon will get you the Iceland ‘cred from friends and IG followers. But the Sky Lagoon was a better experience. Choose accordingly.
