Steven Gerrard breaks Rangers transfer raid silence as Tavernier and Goldson to Saudi reaches fever pitch

Steven Gerrard has opened up on his summer transfer plans with Rangers duo James Tavernier and Connor Goldson being tipped with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Record Sport exclusively that the Rangers skipper and experienced defender Goldson are on the Al-Ettifaq shopping list this summer, as the Liverpool legend looks to raid his former club to revamp his backline for next season. The club have failed to challenge at the summit of the Saudi top flight this term - despite the 5-0 thumping of last season's champions Al-Ittihad moving the side up to sixth spot in the table.

While Gerrard may have the duo on his wishlist, Philippe Clement has previously insisted that he expects the long-serving defensive pair to be at Ibrox next season. The former Light Blues' boss has lifted the lid on his plans for the upcoming transfer window - after busy first 12 months in the market since moving to the Middle East. The ex-Aston Villa boss brought Gini Wijnaldum, Demarai Gray, Jack Hendry and Moussa Dembele to the club - as well as Jordan Henderson before he quickly returned to Europe with Ajax.

While Gerrard is aiming to finish the season strongly, he said: "We must do our best during the coming period and improve the team's situation in the remaining rounds. Work awaits us to correct the team's situation next summer.

"We will need to do great work. There are players who have gave their best and we will work with them to continue but there will be signings next summer."

Rangers fans are reaching fever pitch over their calls for a massive overhaul this summer following defeat to Celtic. The result all-but leaves the Hoops as champions as they hold a six-point lead at the top of the table with a superior goal difference.
