Secrets Aura Cozumel offers a beachfront location that's popular for its proximity to scuba diving, though some guests note the need for renovations. The amenities receive a mixed response; while the beach, pool, and activities are often praised, issues with access, maintenance, and overcrowding are mentioned. Value is a point of contention, with many travelers feeling services are overpriced. Rooms are criticized for maintenance problems, cleanliness issues, and outdated decor, leading to varied experiences with the atmosphere. While the staff's friendliness is acknowledged, service inconsistency is a concern.

We spent a week at Secrets Aura Cozumel in room 1231 and had read multiple mixed reveiws so had low expectations upon arrival. We had a large group and our rooms were spread out throughout the property and we all stayed in Junior Suites with an ocean view. My room was exactally as shown on their website, just a little dated since photos were taken. Some of the others in our group had rooms with a different layout which they were unhappy with. They each spoke to the front desk and were moved to different rooms the next day.
The property is an older property and a little dated, but after reading reviews this was expected. The only complaint I would have was the walls around the toilet and bathroom sink were dirty and that the door to the toilet was glass. I don't need to be able to see my husband setting on the toilet!
Housekeeping did a good job each day when cleaning the room and the room was even mopped each day. Upon arrival the room had a slight musty smell but we never noticed it again.
All of the staff we came into contact with were very friendly.
The hotel does provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and SPF 15 sunscreen. There is also a stocked mini fridge in the room that was restocked daily with bottled water, beer and other canned drinks.
We did rent a car for 2 days from Fiesta rental car who is set up at the front desk. The process was simple, but it did take them a while to get our car to the hotel. He said it would take 40 minutes and ended up taking 2 hours. I would suggest making arrangements the night before you need your car. We played $75 per day for a small 4 door car with full coverage insurance. The Fiesta employee gave me great advice on where to park in town and where to get gas. We spent the first day at Punta Sur and visiting the "wild side" of the island. On day two we visited the cemetery in town and went back to Punta Sur.
We did use snorkel gear from the resort to snorkel and saw a variety of fish right out from the resort in shallow water. I would highly recommend doing this. Some of the others from our group kayaked, but we did not.
Most of the chairs by the main pool in front were taken by 7am, but you could usually find a chair by the ocean until 9am or a little after.
We would definately stay at this resort again if going back to the Island. The location, staff and views make up for the outdated building.

My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed our stay here. We felt very safe at the resort and were happy with the precautions that they took to keep everyone Covid- free. The employees were never without a mask, hand sanitizer was required when dining, etc. We spent the majority of the trip relaxing on the well groomed beach, however, appreciated that there was a number activities and events happening throughout the day if we felt like doing something fun. Brithey, a member of the entertainment team was incredible and we were impressed with how involved she was at the resort. She was so friendly and guest seems to be excited every time she came around. She worked tirelessly all day and never lost any of her energy as she encouraged guests to participate and join in on the fun.

Our favorite parts of our stay was the view of the sunset from our room, snorkeling, and the delicious 'Blue Hawaiian' beverages. We were also really impressed with the wifi as it was consistent even at the beach. Additionally, not a single worker walked past us without greeting us which made us feel really welcomed. Don't sleep on the coffee shop and try and catch some of their carrot cake if you can!

Checking in took a bit longer than we would have liked and after a long flight we wanted nothing more than the key to our room so we can decompress. Upon seeing our room, we were impressed by the size of it. For 2 people there was more than enough space- even the shower was huge! Our room had a huge wall with nothing on it but a small tv. It felt like the space was missing something and we felt more attention could be paid to the decor. Room service was excellent. We were surprised to find they organized our belongs for us and made sure we didn't run out of beer.

If you are a picky eater like myself, you may find the food options to be a bit limited but it was acceptable. Mostly every menu had 5 entrees to choose from. For an all inclusive resort, we felt it was a bit harder to get a drink than we would have liked. Our first day there we had to ask where to go since only some bars were open and we couldn't find a drink anywhere. The service at times was a bit slow. Although the servers were very nice, at times it took a while to order (even with limited guests), for food to arrive or to catch our server in order to order more. Although tips are included with the resort fees, we found tips were still widely awarded and accepted even by the person the administering the Covid tests. After a while, it made us feel bad for not bringing enough change to tip the workers but luckily the front desk was able to break some larger bills for us (which further encourages tipping.)

All in all, we very much enjoyed our trip and if you're looking to take it easy and a nice getaway, we recommend Secrets.

Generally our one week stay in February was enjoyable, beach groomed and clean, pools cleaned daily, food and drink plentiful. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The negative issues often outweigh the positives. Beach and pool lounge chairs sometimes didn't meet demand and umbrellas were in short supply. Food quality at the Market Buffet was mediocre. Popular Oceons restaurant was the only other open for breakfast and lunch and service was often excruciatingly slow. One of the food handling staff even sneezed into their hands and didn't bother to wash their hands afterwards. Unacceptable and disgusting! The Coffee Cafe served terrible coffee (definitely not Timmys quality) and there was a "sewer smell" outside the Cafe. Rooms were clean but we had two burned out lightbulbs that were never replaced. The same "sewer smell" came thru to the bathroom sinks. One day no towels, another day they missed our room completely. A call to the Front Desk resulted in a prompt fix. The stairwells often had small trash pieces (bits of paper, etc) which should have been swept up at least several times a day. It's an "Average" resort.

Our week at Secrets Aura ended February 15, 2020. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We had reserved a Jr. Suite Pool View room which is the least expensive accommodation category at this resort. There are about 80 of these rooms located in Buildings 40 to 44 at the very back of the resort. We did not realize when booking that the rooms were located at the back of the resort. Those on the first floor have direct access to one of the pools. Our accommodation was satisfactory, however, we had to move after our first night as the air conditioner was very noisy. This continued to be an issue in our second room as well. Very difficult getting a good nights sleep. We asked to be upgraded to a different location but were informed that the resort was fully booked. The view from our third floor balcony was very nice.

This resort describes itself as its guests being able to “bask in quiet luxury” and “amenities of unlimited luxury”. This was not our experience. The food at the Oceana, Bordeaux and Windows restaurants was ok but not what I expect from a resort describing itself as being luxurious. Our accommodation was certainly not what I consider as luxurious. I can not comment on other room categories.

The resort does a terrific job of hosting special events. We were there for the Academy Awards celebration evening and Valentines Day evening. The food at the Academy Awards evening was excellent which leads me to wonder where was this quality of food all the other nights.

There is very limited access to the ocean because of all the coral right at the edge of the beach. The views from the beach and the front pool are gorgeous. We especially enjoyed watching the sun set each evening.

As others have stated, the staff at this resort do a great job and have been very well trained.

We just got home yesterday from another great stay at Secrets Aura. We don’t use even 1/10 of the amenities and services they offer, but what we do use and care about — Secrets delivers.

The rooms are extremely clean, and the staff is most helpful and attentive. The food is delicious (you GOTTA try the breakfast chilaquiles rojas — I had it twice!), and the servers are attentive and quick.

Regarding the pandemic — Secrets is certainly on their game. Everyone’s in masks, acrylic dividers are up at the desks, and around every corner at every hour, they’re cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing. For people who don’t want to wear masks — I only ask you to reconsider. The people of Cozumel are terrified that the island is going to go back into the “red” alert (no tourists) at any time, and they’ve already been devastated. They can only stay open and cater to tourists if we do our part. So please — be respectful as GUESTS in their country and do as they do — wear a mask whenever you’re not in your room (except when seated in a restaurant, eating or drinking).

We loved it when someone stopped by our room to offer us complimentary beverages and snacks — what an unexpected surprise!

Secrets Aura has one one of the best dive operators (Dive House) right there on-site, which was very helpful for us to schedule dives and get personalized service.

The beach is really nice right outside — sandy, with a pier you can snorkel and swim around to see some cool fish. The beach is nice and relaxing, with land hammocks and even a couple that are dangling in the water — to stay cool WHILE you relax and sway gently back and forth.

We really appreciated our stay and will most definitely return to Secrets Aura!

My wife and I spent ten days from Aug. 13-22 staying in a Preferred Ocean View room. I originally booked the Occidental but they postponed their open date so we switched to Secrets. We've stayed at Occidental for 15 years so this review will be a bit of comparison between the resorts. FYI we've been coming to the island for over 20 years.

First a shout out to the staff we most interacted with. At the beach restaurant Luis Alfredo who got me coffee and Bailey's every morning. We had breakfast there a couple of times with great food and service. At the preferred swim up bar Carlos and Felipe bartenders and Victoria and Isabella hostesses that kept us hydrated and fed through the day. Miguel at the sky bar who I remembered from the Allegro twenty years ago.

The resort was immaculate and antivirus protocols in place everywhere. A guy with a backpack mister came down the beach every morning misting sanitizer in the restaurant and all of the beach and pool chairs. Other reviews have mentioned the rest of the measures so I'll move on.

Room was great with cold a.c. and hot water with no fluctuation of temp. Thumbs up for that. Room has separate bedroom, bath and living room which was great and you only get with a suite at Occidental Royal Level.

For dinner the specialty restaurants were available without reservations which is nice but the food is definitely not at the Occidental level. Had one good meal at Bordeaux but mostly meh. Breakfast, lunch and poolside food was great.

As reviewed the beach is nice but turns to rock at the waters edge. Edge to Occidental with all their sand. We also missed the jungle with the big iguanas and the coatimundos.

Overall a very nice resort and we'll definitely give it another stay. My only concern is to how crowded it may be at full capacity.

We chose Secrets Aura because it was an adults only hotel on Cozumel. The superior preferred ocean front rooms are located in the 4th floor and are very nicely appointed with an open rain shower head showers and a separate soaking tub. The balconies are large with both a table for sitting and a couch for lounging. Room service was fast and hot. The maid service was thorough and consistent. The beach entry is rocky & slippery but the water is clear, calm, & full of fish which is excellent for snorkeling. TheIt pier gives you easy access for entry & exit. The staff was friendly and the beach service top notch. As for the restaurants, they need to a little work on the variety & quality. The preferred club lounge could also use some upgrades on the food offerings. The fire show on the beach was entertaining, but there is little else to do here most nights. If you are looking for a quiet adult resort that offers excellent ocean views, quality snorkeling, and good food this resort would be a match. Don’t miss taking an excursion to Punta Sur. The southern tip of the island has a lighthouse with stunning 360* views. There are many beach clubs that have delicious restaurants and coastal walks that resemble a postcard. This area of the island has excellent snorkeling where we saw coral reefs, fish, rays, and eels.

We came as soon as we could! I felt safer here than I did in the states. You arrive, clean your shoes, they take your temp, give you sanitizer, a new pen to fill out your paperwork. All employees were required and did wear masks. Everyone was extremely careful and respectful. Great job at the pool bars and entertainment. They only had one restaurant open (overlooking the beach) but they changed the menu each night to match with the other restaurants. The Italian place opened the day we left. Everything in our room was sanitized and put in sealed bags (including the remote). They cleaned the room everyday! We had a blast - of course the resort was only at 30% capacity but that made it great - no lines or fighting for beach chairs. We will definitely go back!

I stayed here with a friend for a girls getaway for 6 nights. The resort is gated with a security guard, so we instantly felt safe upon arrival. We were greeted by concierge instantly who then took our luggage to be sanitized while we checked in. Check in was easy and quick, and they explained the resort layout to us, handed us a map and schedule of the weekly happenings. We were then escorted to a golf cart and driven with our luggage to our room to get settled in. We had a swim up room which I highly recommend. It was great being able to swim right out from our room to the pool and swim up bar. The room was clean and spacious with a sitting area, patio, and a very nice bathroom (and excellent shower!) The service from all of the servers, bartenders, and staff was EXCELLENT the entire time. I enjoyed the food from the restaurants, however the room service food was just okay. TIP: If you want top shelf liquor, you have to request this when you order drinks. An Absolut and Coke was my go to drink. The entertainment was great and we took full advantage of pool volleyball, bingo, and the short pool side shows that were put on by staff. Taxis are cheap and easy to get, simply request one at concierge and they arrive very quickly because they wait outside the resort. We went Parasailing through Jet Ski Cozumel which is a short walk down the beach and was a great experience. I also recommend taking advantage of any of the numerous snorkeling tours on the island, we had a blast. Our stay here was honestly a paradise and one of the best vacations I've taken. I absolutely recommend this resort.

To begin with, I would like to thank Brenda , Reservations Mgr. and Carlos, Front Desk Mgr. for the courtesy and excellent service they extended to me prior to my trip. Words cannot express how wonderful, helpful and professional they are.

My husband and I truly love everything about Secrets Aura and it keeps getting better. The service, friendliness and genuine concern of the staff is such an asset here. We stay in the Preferred Section and we feel it is certainly worth the minimal additional cost. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and huge, the luxurious bathroom is larger than most studio apartments in New York City.

We have always enjoyed the food at all four restaurants however on this trip the food was even better. fresher, tastier with a diverse menu meant to please all taste buds.

I especially would like to thank the management at Secrets for doing such an excellent job during COVID.Everything was meticulous and clean, they limited guests to about 60% of their full capacity. I felt extremely safe, relaxed and so happy to be on vacation.

I also would like to thank the lovely Room Service Operator who went beyond the call of duty to take my breakfast and beverage orders each day. Everything was delivered extremely close to the time requested, the presentation was beautiful and most importantly the food was warm, delicious and accurate.

All the restaurants were open during our stay and the food at all of them was delicious with excellent and varied choices. We enjoyed the gorgeous roof top bar after a day of diving. On this note, we highly recommend Dive House which will pick you up at the pier at Secrets.

I would like to thank the entire staff at Secrets. You all truly made our vacation so wonderful and we cannot wait to return to the beautiful and exceptional Secrets Aura.

Thank you also to the lovely lady in the Preferred Section who checked us in and was a pleasure and helpful throughout our vacation.
