Nilufer Hatun

Nilufer Hatun (1307-1383) was the wife of the Ottoman sultan Orhan Bey and the mother of Murad I.

Biography[]

Nilufer Hatun was born in Bilecik, Byzantine Empire in 1307, the daughter of the Prince of Yarhisar. She married the Ottoman prince Orhan Bey, the first child she bore him was the future Murad I, Orhan's fourth child and second son (after Suleyman Pasha, who died in a hunting accident in 1357). She died in Bursa in 1383, and her son Murad I established a soup kitchen in Izmir in her honor.
