      Variety Staff Variety Direction by Mitchell Leisen is generally satisfactory, although picture is slow in getting under way and has several spots that could be tightened. Maybe it's because those movies had famous directors behind them. Anyway, the film is hilarious and it crackles with that signature Wilder/Brackett wit, the performances are all aces, and the whole thing is just as charming as can be. Its first act is not as great as the rest of the picture, but it is otherwise a superb movie filled with endearing characters, ridiculous and always hilarious scenarios, a powerhouse performance from Claudette Colbert, great humor with many really funny scenes and such a crazy, but sweet finale.
