Featured Map: Condor Lands in San Antonio
Despite serving the second largest city in Texas by population, international service at San Antonio International Airport has paled compared to the other four cities in the Texas top five. Larger Houston benefits not only from size but also United's hub at Houston Intercontinental and Southwest's focus at Houston Hobby. Dallas and Ft. Worth, third and fifth most populous, respectively, share American's hub at DFW. (Except for general aviation traffic, international flights are banned at Dallas Love Field.) Austin undoubtedly benefits from being the state capital, plus home to the University of Texas and substantial high-tech business, all likely generators of international traffic.
In contrast, international service to the Alamo City has been limited to nearby Mxico—until last Friday, when Condor flight DE 2136 arrived from Frankfurt, operated by two-month-old D-ANRO. Using 310-seat Airbus A330-900 (A330neo) aircraft, the thrice-weekly seasonal service will operate until 6 September 2024 on the following schedule:
Flight No. | Depart | Arrive | Days | Duration | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
DE 2137 | SAT | 10:05 pm | FRA | 3:20 pm +1 | Mon | 10:15 | DE 2136 | FRA | 3:40 pm | SAT | 8:05 pm | Mon | 11:25 | DE 2137 | SAT | 8:25 pm | FRA | 1:40 pm +1 | Wed, Fri | 10:15 | DE 2136 | FRA | 2:00 pm | SAT | 6:25 pm | Wed, Fri | 11:25 |
Today's Featured Map illustrates the 45 destinations served non-stop from San Antonio. 37 destinations in the United States are shown in grey, with thinner lines for three seasonal routes (Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, and Philadelphia). Seven desinations in Mxico are depicted in green, again with a thinner line for seasonal service (to Cancn). Finally, the new Frankfurt service is shown in the gold that formed half of the inaugural aircraft's striped livery.
