About the Author

Scott Snyder is one of comics' best young writers. His current works include Batman, Batman: Eternal Superman Unchained, American Vampire and Swamp Thing. He has also been published in Zoetrope, Tin House, One-Story, Epoch, Small Spiral Notebook, and other journals, and has a short story collection, Voodoo Heart, which was published by Dial Press. He teaches at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence University and lives in New York with his wife, Jeanie, and his son, Jack Presley.

I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

First off forget story and artwork content for just as second.. Personal or gift wise the set is amazing and the price is a steal.. The case format is really cool and easy to display.. DC Comics please please do this for all the volumes 1 thru 10.. In fact.. All Trade Paper Backs should be like this..

Now content wise.. I grew up reading the Frank Miller and Alan Moore graphic novels.. So naturally I heard all the "old school" readers saying "that's not the real Batman" it's not the same blah blah blah blah.. So if you read these with that mind set lol good luck.. Because it is different.. Batman, Gordon, Alfred, the Joker (more insane then I've ever seen) everything is a fresh take and yeah probably alot of old school readers will be like.. I don't like it man.. Oh by the ways.. If your not even 40 lol how are you old school lol.. Seriously..

But come on story wise.. They are good!!! Art wise!!! Compelling!!! It's a good read.. Highly recommended for someone who is trying to read and get their feet wet in the New 52 universe.. Batman is the way to go!! Plus the story is super easy to follow volumes 1-10 will lay out a really good story arc that will surprise you and have some really intense Joker moments! You don't need to purchase a bunch of tie in books so new readers like I said will find it really cool. Plus for people who maybe haven't read Batman since he defeated the Hulk in the 80's.. lol.. Oh yeah he did do that.. Google it.. I'm old school trust me I have that comic.. He kicked the Hulk in the solar plexs... It will be cool for them to read a great Cape Crusader saga again..

This story arch was so amazing that I even bought the other issues from nightwing and others. The last book in the collection is also an amazing piece of work that I deeply appreciate. These amazing works r sold for such an amazing amount.

You get 3 great stories here with 1 and 2 being connected and a great addition to Batman mythos. For the 3rd volume I highly suggest getting the companion piece. Jokers: Death of the Family.

First, I'll say this: If I could give the books themselves 10 stars, I would! Scott Snyder has written nearly 5 years of Batman books that will be remembered by comic fans for decades to come. Amazing stuff! And Greg Capullo's art is equally as great. Also, please remember that this is a Scott and Greg boxset, so you aren't going to find the additional Death of the Family material, only the stories from the core Batman series. I'm in the middle of re-reading the material, so if I find anything of interest (outside of the fantastic material) I'll definitely be updating this review.

The packaging itself is somewhat disappointing. Not the artwork, but the quality. I've only had it for a few days, but the paper that is covering the cardboard is starting to become unglued on the bottom. I can easily fix, but there must have been a better way to do this. I'll re-glue and see how that and the rest of it hold up over time.

Also, DC, if you are reading this, PLEASE announce/release the second box set asap. Can't wait for my kids to read Zero Year, possibly my favorite arc during Scott's run.

Both the writing and the artwork are top notch. I love how Bruce Wayne's character grows throughout these three books, you don't get to see that in a lot of Batman stories.
The paper this is printed on, I believe, is very good quality, and when the three books are lined up on the shelf you get a neat batman logo.
Over all I'm very pleased with this set, and would recommend to anyone looking for a great Batman story.

Y por otro lado, soy fanático del arte de Greg Capullo desde su época ilustrando Spawn, por lo que jamás dude que su trabajo en una serie tan oscura como ésta seria increíble.
