Bob Marley & The Wailers – Babylon By Bus

This pressing is OK for a live album. The sub frequencies are a bit hot, but after adjusting my sub, it sounds pretty good. The instruments thin. Vocals are good. Im not sure what to think. It's definitely not worth the $40 I paid.

I still think my live at the Rainbow 2020 reissue is a much better live LP, mixed perfectly, and cut properly.

Great pressing, clean clear vocals, great lows, sharp highs just fantastic sounding album from the legend.

Mostly recorded in Paris on the Kaya tour, this 1978 double live LP only includes one song from the KAYA album. The setlist spans the decade, going back to CATCH A FIRE, and the performances are tight and rocking. "Exodus", "Kinky Reggae" and "War/No More Trouble" are highlights. This is a 1985 pressing, with the die-cut cover, and the vinyl sounds very good, with plenty of low end, depth and clarity to the vocals and instrumentation, and a rich, enveloping soundstage. My copy plays beautifully, nice and clean with no noticeable surface noise.

Perhaps the best LIVE recording made of an artist, ever.

I agree with most reviewers that this Abbey Road remaster sounds very good.

HOWEVER, it is also clear that the dynamics have been reduced to make it sound louder. This is very obvious when comparing the soundwave with an early 1970s version of the record. The volume has been boosted and expanded (but no brickwall limiter has been used).

The measurements tell the story: the Abbey Road HSM side 1 (normalized at 0dB) measures at -15dB, while an early press (Japan first press, also normalized at 0dB) measures at -22dB. (FWIW - a difference of 7dB in total RMS power is a lot, it represents more than double the volume).

The soundwaves are even more telling, but that would take too much work to post it here (ping me through PM if you want a screenshot of both).

Unless this has been done in that analog domain at Abbey Road (which is possible), this new m aster most certainly is NOT a straight transfer from the original tapes.

This version does sound better, but it has been heavily boosted and normalized to sound 'bigger'. I believe that is part of the Abbey Road sonic signature, or 'house sound', which some people love, and I can see why.

Very good quality Yougoslavia Repress of this classic Live LP, sound good... Perfect !

Wasn't expecting much based on other reviews of the Jamaican pressings.. perhaps I'm lucky, but this is a fantastic reissue. Love the original Tuff Gong labels, and the music and pressing quality are great! Very impressed and will be seeking out more Tuff Gong reissues!

@OlivierG.: Yes, that's right. This is weakly done.

And there is a mistake on the inner sleeve of the band members.
Carlton Barrett plays drums, not bass.
The cover was revised and then such mistakes...

Pas de fade in / fade out au début (sauf A) et fins (sauf D) des faces des vinyles... dommage !
No fade in / fade out at the beginning (except A) and end (except D) of the vinyl sides... shame!
