Randall Cunningham II was born in Las Vegas on January 4, 1996, to Randall Cunningham and Felicity. He is well-known as the son of Randall Cunningham, a two-time All-American punter, and four-time Pro Bowl quarterback. He is also the nephew of running back and College Football Hall of Famer Sam Cunningham. He also has two more Cunningham uncles, A.C. and Bruce, who both played Division I football. Felicity, his mother, is a native South African who used to be a professional ballerina with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. He has four siblings: Vashti Cunningham, Christian, Grace, and Sophia.

Randall Cunningham II is a former high jumper from the United States. He was a member of the USC Trojans men’s track and field team. He was a dual-sport athlete at Bishop Gorman High School, where he also played quarterback.

He has three Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) state championships in track and two in football. He is a three-time NCAA Track and Field Champion, a five-time NCAA All-American, a U.S. Junior National Champion, and a Pan American Junior Athletics Championships Champion.

As a sophomore, he set USA Track & Field (USATF) and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national 15-16-year-old boys high jump marks of 2.16 meters (7 ft 1.0 in) and 7 feet 2 inches, respectively.

With a height of 7 feet 3.25 inches, he had the highest jump of the year by an American high school student in the Spring of 2013. He was named Nevada Track & Field Gatorade Athlete of the Year in 2013. As a freshman, junior, and senior, he won the NIAA state high jump championship.

 He has two Nevada Division I high jump titles and two AAU Junior Olympics high jump titles. He passed 6-11 at the Nevada state meet and 7-0 at the Junior Olympics in 2014.

With a clearance of 7-0 in 2013, he shattered the Sunset Region high jump record that had held for 36 years. As a senior, his greatest clearance was 7-2.00, which he achieved while winning the Mt. SAC Relays. He won every meet in which he cleared a height. In 2013, he set a personal best of 7-3.25, leading all high school high jumpers.

Cunningham also played quarterback for Gorman, which won its fifth straight state championship in 2014. He carried for 213 yards and four touchdowns in the championship game, while also completing 9 of 11 throws for 111 yards and a touchdown.

During his first year at USC, he earned All-American honors by finishing eighth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) outdoor finals. The next summer, he won the U.S. Junior National high jump title and a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. As a sophomore, he won the NCAA outdoor championships, and as a junior, he was an All-American. As a senior, he won the NCAA indoor title.

He won the NIAA AAAA high jump championship as a freshman on May 20, 2011, with a jump of 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m). Cunningham won the high jump at the August 2012 National AAU Junior Olympic Games with a leap of 7 feet 2 inches (2.18 m).

 Cunningham won the NIAA state championship on May 24, 2014, with a high jump of 6 feet 11 inches and a long jump of 22 feet 8.25 inches.
