Career in show business

He broke into show business with a role as one of the original Mouseketeers of “The Mickey Mouse Club” in 1955. He and his younger brother, Tim, were cast as backup Mouseketeers, appearing on several episodes before they were let go for their tendency to cause backstage mischief. Rooney made appearances on TV shows including “I’ve Got a Secret,” “Shindig!” and “The Merv Griffin Show,” and he had roles in the movies “Hot Rods to Hell,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” and “Songwriter.” He was also a multi-instrumentalist who played in Willie Nelson’s band, as well as releasing his own music including the songs “”The Wandering Wind” and “The Choice Is Yours.”
