About High Point

Founded in 1859, High Point was named for being the highest point on the North Carolina Railroad between Goldsboro and Charlotte. Our forefathers capitalized on the city’s central location in the state appealing to industry and commerce that remains prosperous to this day.

High Point is home to a variety of events that draw visitors from across the globe, including the High Point Market, the world’s largest furnishings industry tradeshow. Twice annually, in April and October, 75,000 professionals in the business including retail buyers, designers, architects, and bloggers from across the United States and 110 countries, descend to downtown High Point, to see the latest trends in furnishings and design.

Whether you’re attending the High Point Market; visiting our world-class experiential learning institution, High Point University; shopping the area’s 100+ furniture stores and outlets, or enjoying our Labor Day weekend tradition, the John Coltrane International Jazz & Blues Festival; High Point offers the connectivity, service, and ease of an enjoyable experience.
