gbv and sebadoh songs probably shouldnt count but this
is maybe the best rock thing they ever did, or at least its very nearly as good as Mesh Gear Fox
the album version is a decent example of bob trying to sound like he's singing in a stadium when he's likely staggering around a basement

I always liked it when bands like Sebadoh or Pavement would do all new tracks that didn't get proper releases.

Moonshake did a sesh where they swapped vocalists around so Dave did Margaret's songs and vice versa

i like the SUCKcess version of Here better

Rich Uncle Skeleton

It's not all Peel, but i prefer most of Pixies At The BBC to the original versions.

Peel Session version of Pink Glove by Pulp made me appreciate what a great song it actually is, miles better than the album version.

Pencil Skirt had way more punch in the chorus, which is a little subdued on Different Class, unless I'm missing some point about it suggesting sexual tension/frustration..Peel version's better though.

Also, not sure they're better than the originals but My Bloody Valentine's Peel session from 1988 is fucking brilliant.

I love His 'N' Hers in general but they really fucked Pink Glove. It sounds so limp compared to live versions, especially the one they did for Peel.

It's a really odd exception too! So many of the songs off His N Hers and the Sisters EP had been really honed live the year or so before they went to record them virtually the same and there's some really great radio sessions besides Peel. God knows what made them do Pink Glove the way they did.

Egyptian Feast

I normally prefer the album versions, even with The Fall, but Microdisney's Peel Sessions, especially anything from their debut album Everybody Is Fantastic, are mostly much better than the official releases. Compare the final track on that album with the unhinged and astonishing Peel version.

To me it sounds like a late take. Jarvis sounds bored on the vocal, like he's been singing the song over and over again all day.

Brundle-Fly

You can't beat the Too Much Too Young EP live version; so much more vim than the interminable extended studio version from the Specials debut album. So, I prefer the Peel Session to that. It's more reggae-fied and tight as a gnat's chuff.

i love that the first session typified them more precisely than any of their studio recordings, and then for the second one they totally exploded

Out of Cold Storage booklet remarks that Peel hated the second one a lot

Funcrusher

I should really give the Microdisney Peel Sessions a listen, love that stuff. Not on Spotify or cheeky downloads that I can see, but it's on YouTube at least.

bushwick

Speaking of The Fall, I prefer this Country On The Click era version to the Hex original. Sounds absolutely crazed.

Can this thread double as a recommend good Peel Sessions thread? Are the Killing Joke ones worth a listen?

Another couple of my favourites. So much better than the versions released on the In The World EP, I don't know why they didn't just release these instead.

they're great but not as good because the lack of vocal effects make them sound obnoxiously posh

to the war darhnce!

Polvo's peel sessions are good
Galaxie 500 did Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste and Final Day
no way better than the original but the Swirlies Jeremy Parker is BONECRUSHING
Sonic Youth did 4 Fall covers, 2 ace and 2 shit
the Chameleons Fan and the Bellows, Nostalgia and Second Skin are all better in session
Loop's are great especially the weird out of time Suicide cover

T ørs ø

This also, never officially released and total fucking belter

Not a Peel session but they recorded Blue Feather for a BBC session and it's the only straight version around and it's great, could have been a single IMO

One of my favourite NO tracks but Barney didn't like it so it had to go.

That session was produced by NO themselves and sent to the BBC
