DC Studios, formerly named DC Films, is a division of Warner Bros. that oversees the production of films based on intellectual property owned by DC Entertainment. DC Studios has produced every DC Extended Universe film since Suicide Squad.

Since August 2022, Walter Hamada agreed to stay as DC Films president until after the release of Black Adam.[1] On October 19, 2022, Walter Hamada left the company.[2]

From June to October 2022, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are Interim presidents for DC Films.[3] On October 25, 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran were confirmed as the new bosses of DC Studios.[4] The pair assumed office on November 1st.

History[]

DC Films previously existed as a production banner within Warner Bros., but was reorganized to be a formal division after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice underperformed at the box office and garnered negative reception from audiences and critics alike.[5] The division was created under Warner Bros. executive vice president Jon Berg and DC Comics chief content officer Geoff Johns. This was done at the time to compete more directly with it's popular rival, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Due to the underperformance and negative reception of Justice League, both critically and commercially, Warner Bros. announced a new strategy and organization of DC Films would occur, with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg stepping down as co-chairmen of DC Films and co-runners of DC Extended Universe.[6][7]

In January 2018, it was announced that Warner Bros. executive Walter Hamada will be the new president of DC Films, and will oversee all future DCEU projects.[8] In February 2018, Chantal Nong Vo was announced to be the vice president of production for DC Films.[9]

On April 5, 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery announced to reshape DC Entertainment and its film division, Newcomer president David Zaslav annouced that he was looking for a "Kevin Feige" type figure to lead DC Films.[10], On August 5, 2022, shortly after Batgirl cancellation, then president Walter Hamada was deeply upset of the cancellation and threatened to resign, however Hamada agreed to stay on until the release of Black Adam[11], Hamada was set to leave DC Films on October 21, 2022. Hamada left two days eariler on October 19, 2022.

On October 25, 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the new executives of the newly rebranded name "DC Studios".
