Sajal Aly: Her 5 Best Drama Performances

Sajal Aly is an actress who is synonymous with quality. Having done several shows over the course of her decade-long career, here’s a list of her best roles

The name Sajal Aly is associated with quality work.  When Sajal signs a show, the audience can rest assured that there will something worth watching in the project.  To say Sajal Aly is a dependable actor would be an understatement – she is an actor that not only delivers consistently, but consistently raises the bar on her own performances.  Sajal has been acting since 2009, starting as a young artist and moving into lead roles.  Here’s a list of Sajal Aly’s best performances through the years.

Yakeen Ka Safar

“Yakeen Ka Safar” is a show that will be remembered with the greats as an all-time classic.  Telling a tale of two families, the story focuses on Asfandyar (Ahad Raza Mir) and Zubia (Sajal Aly), two individuals that deal with their share of turmoil before finally coming to terms with their loss and finding happiness. Each and every performance in this show is brilliant, as is the writing by Farhat Ishtiaq, along with Shahzad Kashmiri’s direction.

However, Sajal Aly’s performance as Zubia allows the audience to connect with this character, a young girl who not only loses her mother, but her sense of peace, safety and acceptance within her own home.  The suffering Zubia experiences due to her one error in judgement sends her on a journey that takes the audience through the highs and lows with her – and it’s Sajal’s performance that makes this possible with “Yakeen Ka Safar” and Zubia being Sajal’s most beloved show and character.

Gul E Rana

HUM TV’s “Gul E Rana” aired in 2015 and cast Sajal Aly opposite Feroze Khan.  While initially coming across as a love story between a simple girl and her rich, arrogant cousin, the story quickly turned into something different.

Sajal Aly’s performance as Gul E Rana, a fiery young girl who gets trapped in a marriage with a male chauvinist and emotionally abusive husband, made the audience sit up and take notice.  Not only did Sajal look beautiful in this role, but she conveyed Gul E Rana’s helplessness well, stuck in a marriage without respect and now fighting for that respect.

O Rangreza

While many viewers felt “O Rangreza” lost the plot towards the end of the show and reverted to regressive ideals despite starting off strong, Sajal Aly’s performance has been remembered as the highlight of the show.

Supported by brilliant performances by Nauman Ejaz and Bilal Abbas Khan, Sajal’s Sassi carried the show with her feisty, non-conforming persona, a woman who refused to bow down to the standards set out for her to follow and challenged gender roles.  Sajal’s portrayal of Sassi not only earned her awards, but also respect and recognition as a true actress.

Sannata

A highly underrated show that was neglected due to its heavy story and treatment, “Sannata” focuses on two cousins, Ruqaiyya (Saba Qamar) and Pari (Sajal Aly).

Pari is raised by Ruqaiyya and suffers from split personality disorder, experiencing bouts where she attempts to take over Ruqaiyya’s life.  While “Sannata” is not light viewing and can be very heavy on the heart, Sajal’s performance as Pari is incredible, especially taking into account that this is one of her earlier performances.

Chup Raho

While dramas based on social issues are now becoming highly popular, “Chup Raho” released at a time where the story was still considered taboo.

Dealing with sexual assault and harassment within the family, Sajal played Rameen, a girl who is raped by her brother-in-law and made to keep the ordeal a secret.  Her performance of a naïve girl to a woman traumatized by her past was rilliant and painful to watch.

While these are Sajal’s top five performances, she has given several other great performances in whows like Kahani Raima Aur Minahil Ki, Noor Ul Ain, Aangan, Behadd  and Mera Raqeeb.  Currently starring in the brilliant “Alif,” Sajal is stealing hearts as Momina Sultan.  Sajal Aly’s latest show “Yeh Dil Mera” co-stars Ahad Raza Mir, is written by Farhat Ishtiaq and aired its first episode on Wednesday, October 29, 2019.
