    My wife and I are in from Los Angeles and planned a dinner at Selby months ago which we had been looking forward to. We arrived last night and our evening was off to a stellar start until I noticed a large spider crawling across the banquette next to me. I crushed it with my napkin and pointed it out to our waiter who apologized, took the napkin and then did not bring me a replacement napkin. Less than five minutes later, a smaller spider was crawling across the tablecloth on the table. I crushed this one as well and pointed it out to our waiter who said he would inform management. Someone other than our waiter brought me a drink that I had ordered, perhaps he was management, but he did it identify himself as such. He apologized for the spiders. From that point in the meal on (just after our first course), we were completely ignored by the entire waitstaff. My wife finished her drink and was never offered another. We finished our bottle of sparking water and were never offered another. It was shocking because I would have expected a Michelin star restaurant to have adequate service, not to mention, after our encounters with two spiders, one would have thought that our server would have been particularly attentive, not completely absent. Upon ordering desert, my wife was told two flavors were available, coffee and vanilla. So she ordered that only to have a scoop of chocolate and vanilla arrive. Then she was informed there were indeed a variety of flavors, but no clarity was given. Needless to say, this was a horrific dining experience and particularly disappointing considering that we put considerable thought into selecting where we wanted to dine in advance of our trip only to deeply regret our choice. This morning, we both awoke, to still be in shock as to the complete lack of attention paid to our experience last night. It was clear that no one on the Selby team cared.

    First time here, a lovely evening, wonderful service, rich food, the coldest martini in the west, decadent desserts, definitely will return. A small timing issue in that the first course came before we finished the amuse and our cocktails, so a bit rushed at first, but afterwards the pace was perfect. Sam was an informative and engaging Sommelier, and David was a proficient waiter.

    The food was so disappointing. I had the duck and it was too gummy and not well cooked, i didn’t finish it brought it home and it was not even worth reheating. My appetizer was the mussel, simply inedible, tasted more like potatoes in a strangr sauce. 830$ tab for 4 and i didnt feel like I loved the food. At least my husband enjoyed his burger… . The ambiance and service 5 star food only 2.

    The food was delicious. Everything was prepared very well. However, we expected a little more from a one star restaurant. Martinis were not cold, the salt shaker was empty and needed to be refilled and asking for ground pepper took 10 minutes. It was not readily available in the dining room for the wait staff. The staff are very attentive and lovely. A request for hand sanitizer sent everyone into a flurry. It would seem that a bottle of hand sanitizer would be readily available on the second floor..? all said, the food and wine list were very good and we will be back.

    Food was very good. The seasonal white asparagus was fantastic. Seabass, filet and guinea hen were pretty good as well. Only gave 3 star for value bc the total worked to be about $240 a person(3 glass of wine). Seems high.

    I don't know why Selby's is not talked about enough. Last night was my first time. From the moment I stepped in to the moment I got into the car, the staff has been so attentive, anticipating every needs, constantly checking on you, thorough and detailed and they guided me to the bathroom. I was very impressed with coat check and valet, and the DESSERTS were the best I've had. It's one of my favorite restaurants in the Bay area now. Overall, 10/10 experience

    Very nice ambioance and decor - quiet place although there were quite a few tables booked - great cuisine and service - knowledgeable waiter regarding preparation and various dishes - very courteous - took my girlfriend there for her birthday and we were extremely pleased with the experience. Definitly recommand the place if you want something special and you don't mind the final bill. This being said the price reflect the service and cuisine so nothing to complain about here.

    Obviously, we would only go to Selby for a special occasion due to the cost but $200 per person with NO ALCOHOL is a bit much. However that did include the tip which they automatically add in as many do these days. All of our food was good, service was impeccable. However, our soup came out warm and with all the trouble they go to to make a splashy presentation pouring it at table side. You think it would be hot. the beef Wellington was cooked perfectly. The halibut was just meh a bit dry. The duck was a large portion again cooked perfectly. They have stepped up their game with regard to desserts.
