Produktbeschreibungen
She's often been called the 'Queen of Country Music' and I don't know if you'll find anyone more qualified to wear that crown other than Dolly Parton. From her early hits like 'Stand By Your Man' and 'D-I-V-O-R-C-E' right up to her collaboration with the KLF on 'Justified & Ancient', Wynette was Country music personified. The sadness, anger or joy of the lyrics became part of who Wynette was: A classy Country diva who was tough and strong yet had a heart of gold. 27 tracks. SMS.

The essential solo tracks are Stand by your man, D-I-V-O-R-C-E, I don't wanna play house and Till I can make it on my own. Among the other solo tracks, my favorites include Take me to your world, Your good girl's gonna go bad, You and me, Woman to woman and Womanhood. These tracks are not always included on Tammy's compilations - indeed, Womanhood didn't even get into the Tears of Fire boxed set of Tammy's music - so it's great to see them all here.
Three duets with George Jones are included. I would have chosen Two story house instead of Near you, but I have no complaints, as anybody who wants all Tammy and George's duets can find them elsewhere. Also included are superb covers of Sometimes when we touch (with Mark Gray), Every breath you take (with Sting, who originally recorded the song as lead singer of Police) and Silver threads and golden needles (with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn). Her first duet hit, My elusive dreams (with David Houston) is also here.
The collection ends with Justified and ancient, her huge worldwide hit of the late eighties, which saw her singing with the KLF. Apparently this was number one in 18 countries. It was number two in the UK and also did well in America. This track is substantially different from Tammy's other music, but if you don't like it you can always hit stop when you reach it. With 26 other tracks, nobody can have any cause for complaint.
Among the Tammy classics not included here are Bedtime story, I still believe in fairy tales and Another lonely song, but the tracks here fill the CD. Despite those and other omissions, this is the best single-CD collection of Tammy's music you are ever likely to find. If you only want one CD of Tammy's music, choose this.

This is a near-perfect compilation, and excellent value at 78 mins. But why do compilers (an untrustworthy breed at the best of times) so often imagine fans of a singer want to hear forgettable, or plain inept, duets? I`m delighted to have three of her imperishable duets with her onetime husband George Jones, whose peerless voice I could listen to any time, and the version of Silver Threads with Dolly Parton & Loretta Lynn is treasurable - but I really could have lived without the sore thumb of Every Breath You Take with Sting, which is actually very good, but unnecessary on a disc that is meant to be a celebration of Tammy`s talent; and her Sometimes When We Touch is spoilt for me by the hairy-chested vocal of Mark Gray, however big a hit it was. That wonderful song My Elusive Dreams, sung with one David Houston is better, and the KLF hit is sensibly placed last, so the listener can programme it in or out easily.
The rest of this collection is all Ms Wynette, and what an artist she was.
She emotes as little as as she can get away with - except perhaps on the theatrical Stand By Your Man and one or two others - preferring to sing these superb songs straight, letting her glorious voice do all the talking, so to speak.
A couple of highlights are the rightly well-known I Don`t Wanna Play House, which, like so many of these songs, Tammy sings like she`s not only been there and done that but bought the t-shirt too, and the hearfelt, beautifully sung `Til I Can Make It On My Own.
Many of the songs here are directly about being a woman - look at those titles - and I am in no doubt that, in her own way, Tammy was as much of a feminist as any of her more militant `sisters`, merely by singing of the experiences of being a woman in what was/is very much a man`s world.
Some singers transcend genre - Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, are a few who spring to mind - and Tammy was another. Her phrasing of a song is as instinctively felicitous as Garland, Sinatra - or George Jones!
Quibbles aside, this is pretty much a (not quite `the`) definitive collection. Four stars for the compilers, a joyful five for the wonderful Tammy.
