Miles Davis – 'Four' & More (Recorded Live In Concert)

The 1981 Japanese version is a phenomenal issue with spectacular sound quality. No other copy is ever needed.

I have a strange pressing that I cannot quite pin down. This one is the closest entry in Discogs, except the matrix for Side B on my copy has XSM112004-1F stamped on Side B (instead of XSM112004-1A). Can anyone double check and confirm that their copy actually has XSM112004-1A on Side B, or is that an error?

My copy also has a slightly different jacket. The front looks like this one, except with a sticker that says "PC 9253" on the top left (covering what presumably says "Stereo CS 9253"), and the back cover is slightly different and has "KCS 9253" under the Columbia eye logo.

This might be the most exciting recorded performance in the Miles Davis catalog. If you just want to hear five jazz dynamos go at it, burning through their setlist at breakneck speeds, cognizant of the potential creative fruit it might bear, please check out this record.

At face value, you might be prepared to write off George Coleman as the weakest link in the quintet, having just replaced titan John Coltrane. On the contrary, I have never heard him play so well; a truly worthy replacement. I'm serious, he is crushing this performance. The second notable contributor is Tony Williams. He propels the band with power and excitement. His relentless ride symbol is determined to reach its goal, with some handy kit work along the way.

This is the '77 Pitman repress and it sounds very nice. I have nothing to compare, but I find it contains good dynamics and 3D punch.

4.5 stars. Recommended.

You can feel in this live outing that Miles Davis and crew are pushing these older hard bop standards as far as they can go: faster and with more agility. It feels like a breaking point before Miles started exploring jazz in a different direction, already set with the great backing band of Hancock, Williams, and Carter. George Coleman (sax) wasn't in Miles' band for too long, but he contributes solid chops here.

this is the pressing i have exactly, the only exception being that the arrows and "360 sound stereo 360 sound" at the bottom of the label appear in white ink as opposed to in black. anyone else got a pressing like this?

MoFi has done it again with this fantastic half-speed mastering! Feels like you're in the Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in NYC. The quality and packaging of this release has prompted me to pre-order the MoFi pressing of Milestones as well.

Could someone please add the original master recordings edition.
