Reviews
- The date for Disc 2, Tracks 11-14 is sadly in error. They were recorded at Bay Street on 4/1/87, not 4/15/87
- I delayed buying this for a long time after being annoyed with easy actions crazy use of noise reduction on "1977" & "where the faces shine"- I know this is a different company but once bitten...
bad points out of the way first
tracks 2 &4 are agora 3/22/77 just from an inferior source (common mislabel) NR artefacts are clearly audible, not a good start
but get past this and things improve
tracks 5-6 are a revelation, although I hear some Noise reduction artefacts (at tolerable levels) I don't recognise this tape source its very powerful and I'm wondering if Ig has opened his vaults for this project and given us the master tapes used for TV eye live 1977?
tracks 7-9 are worth the price of this compilation alone, I don't hear the same intrusive noise reduction artefacts
its really an excellent audience recording for the time, the Sales Brothers spine tingling harmonies come through loud and clear
its great to have a live "tonight" on cd in such good quality
I suspect this is the JEMS master transferred brilliantly by the mighty wizard and torrented on dime a few years back, don't worry if that statement means nothing to you :-)
anyway as my interest in live Iggy is limited to the Bowie/Thurston/RCA period and I already own 11/16/77 on bootleg vinyl I have nothing more to say except buy this set,TV eye Live
pick up "Iggy pop live" on laser light digital records & the night clubbing 2LP bootleg on cool records (not the swinging pig version!) and Paris Palace
and ignore the easy action releases
- A fairly decent Iggy compilation. More concise then Easy Action's Where The Faces Shine' box sets.
The package is a chronological trawl through Iggy's solo career up to the reformation of the Stooges.
The final disc is pretty patchy though with some really poor songs & incongruous styles.
The sound quality is mostly quite decent for this sort of release.
If you are an Iggy/stooges fan then sound quality is probably not a major concern anyway.
A few tracks have been out before notably on Nuggets & probably numerous bootlegs.
The packaging would have benefited from being a digipak rather then a jewel case
but this is a minor complaint & the Iggy illustration is great.
Worth buying despite final disc.
