Narcopolis is a futuristic thriller set in the near future where all classes of drugs have been legalized. Frank Grieves is a 'Dreck', a roaming narc responsible for keeping the black market dealers off the streets and the licenced drugs companies rich. When he discovers a rogue substance in an unidentified corpse, evidence suggests that Ambro, the most powerful drug manufacturer of all, are conducting secret tests on an experimental narcotic. Grieves discovers a second victim - this time alive - but she disappears and he is suddenly taken off the case by his superiors. As his options drain away, it's clear that legalization has come at a heavy price. Is it too late to save the city?

Narcopolis (2015) is a UK science fiction mystery thriller that was a cliche to Blade Runner (1982) and was filmed in Swansea, Wales, UK. Director and writer Justin Trefgarne (Peter Rabbit (2012), Unborn (2008), Life:XP (2007)) did a beautiful job executing the impressive visuals with futuristic-looking locations and a terrible job with the narrative and too many subplots. The concept of the movie was brilliant but need more careful planning and execution.
Narcopolis takes place in a world where all drugs are legal, and police officers have to hunt illegal drug users and manufacturers. Pharmaceutical corporations are the only ones that can sell the drugs. The cops search for drug dealers who sell/trade in the black market. The movie started with a prologue set in 2044 and then shifts backwards to 2024 in London, where we see detective Frank Grieves patrolling the streets for illegal drugs. The movie could not have been more confusing than it was as there was a dead drug addict/dealer with part of his brain missing, Eva Gray who seems to have something to do with the case and also a Russian scientist, who has a thing for technology.
Frank (Elliot Cowan - Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), Alexander (2004), The Golden Compass (2007), Da Vinci’s Demons (2013)) does not have a substantial relationship with his estranged wife and 9-year-old son. I became a little interested when time travel was introduced with the help of drug use, but that was a blunder. I gave this movie a four because the film quality was good and the actors gave an average performance. Everything else about the movie was a fail, and I cannot stop thinking if it was because of the messed up storyline which was all over the place. There are many twists in the film that was not needed because it took you in directions that will stray away from the storyline. Sci-fi fans should stay clear of this movie.
