Cameron Mitchell

Cameron Mitchell was named Interim Head Coach of Portland Community College Men's Basketball in June of 2023.

He succeeds long time leader Tony Broadous, who will focus on the Director of Athletics position for the 2023-24 academic year. Broadous steps aside after 11 seasons, two South Region Championships, and one NWAC Tournament Championship. 

Mitchell enters his 1st season as Interim Head Coach of the Panthers with nearly a decade of experience coaching at the high school, junior college and NCAA levels. Mitchell was an assistant coach for the Panthers during the 2022-2023 season, focusing on player development, practice and game strateg,y and recruiting. "I am thrilled to be named Interim Head Men's Basketball coach at PCC," Mitchell said. "I am looking forward to building on the great foundation set by Coach Broadous, Coach White and Coach West, and all of the student-athletes that put their blood, sweat and tears into this program."

"Coach Mitchell is an outstanding young coach who is a perfect fit to take the reins this year as I focus on the Athletic Director role," said Broadous. "He has tremendous passion for all aspects of the game; recruiting, weightlifting, fundraising, player development, and academics. I am excited to see what he can do this year"

Prior to his time at PCC, Mitchell spent five years as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Clackamas High School. During his tenure at Clackamas the Cavaliers won two Mt. Hood Conference titles, qualified for the Oregon HS state championship tournament, and saw multiple student-athletes move on to the next level. Mitchell was named the Mt. Hood Conference Coach of the Year in 2021, leading the Cavaliers to a perfect 13-0 league record.

Before Clackamas, Mitchell served as an assistant coach at Whitworth University and was part of a 23-5 season that saw the Pirates return to their 11th straight NCAA tournament appearance. During the 2015-2016 season, Mitchell began his college coaching career as an assistant coach at City College of San Francisco, one of the top junior college basketball programs in the nation. Mitchell helped lead player development workouts, scouted upcoming opponents and recruited multiple all-league student-athletes. The team finished 32-1 and won a CCCAA State Championship. "I value building relationships within the athletic department, across campus, and into the community and am looking forward to having an excellent program that the local community can be proud of,"  Mitchell said.

Mitchell, a Portland native, graduated from Willamette University with a BA in History, a MA in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco, and a MA in Teaching from George Fox University. At Willamette Mitchell was a two time all league and all west region performer on the basketball court. He continued his basketball career overseas, playing professionally in Ireland, Australia, and Chile.
