Actually, i have read most of the book exactly 20 years from now ! Already ! OMG !! Mine was an old paperback and in all honesty it would be nice that a fine edition was printed. The book is not just about oil, it is about world history and the influence of oil that is not only essential, but also changed history in a dramatic way. The interrelationships are quite interesting - to say the least. Lets put it this way, the Nobel prize has to do with oil - of all things.
The fact is the history and economics of the industrial revolution cannot be told with without oil and Yergin goes to great lenghs to guide the reader through an enormous amount of information. It is quite frankly mind boggling that patience is needed to read and above all learn. Certainly a must for anybody interested in 20th century history or for those in the oil business who want to know more about oil. In many regards the history is so convoluted that may put many a fictional novel to shame. An excellent historical perspective that cannot be learned in college or much less school .
A book not for the timid.
Muy bien por Yergin
Highlight interesting facts to be read between the lines, for example, World War I was designed to destroy the Ottoman Empire to get their territories Near East, full of oil, under British rule. Idem, the objective of the Second World War was to destroy the British Empire and territories to pass the same control of North America. The crisis of 1973 was produced to increase the price of a barrel of oil so that was profitable to exploit reserves in the North Sea. And so on.
It is a story of the second half of the nineteenth century and twentieth century until 1990.

This book, for me, dispelled some myths about the industry and its origins. It opened my eyes to the bravery, foresight, intelligence and sometimes dumb luck of oil men and the nations they dealt with. Highly recommend reading this book.
The whole geopolitics is based on this book We r lucky to live in the era of AMAZON
