Kevin Maher Times (UK) The plague of locusts scene, achieved by dumping thousands of peanut shells from a helicopter and playing the eventual footage backwards, is a knockout. Rated: 4/4 Oct 19, 2023 Full Review David Sexton London Evening Standard Simply one of the most ravishing films ever made, luminous in a way that no other movie has been. Rated: 5/5 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Bianca Garner The Film Bee Even though the film’s length is a slick 94 minutes, it feels so much longer (in a good way). It’s the type of film that leaves you craving more; but Malick deliberately leaves certain scenes and plot points ambiguous. May 16, 2024 Full Review David Harris Spectrum Culture Even though the story is simple, Malick uses his camera to elevate the tale into something more cosmic, more glorious than a synopsis could ever allow. Mar 12, 2024 Full Review Evan Dossey Midwest Film Journal There’s food for thought in the imagery of a man from the steelworks corrupting a man from the natural world... David C I saw it last night at Music Box theater. It is a beautiful film to look at with a solid cast but the story is just lacking and the ending was so bad that I heard people laugh out loud. Good but not best ever film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Nathan T Another great and classic film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Tim O My "memory" of having initially seen this decades ago, was a much stronger film than I see now. Beautiful cinematography, and some really impressive scenes of period mass-harvesting in the giant kerosene tracters era (heh, big hit for the small community of fans of old tractors and machinery [grin]). But the characters haven't aged well, and I now find pretty shallow and unengaging. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Pablo A Dazzling in its visual elegance, 'Days of Heaven' stands as a cinematic masterpiece. Every frame is a work of art, a visual symphony that transcends dialogue. The film's portrayal of a dystopian dance between wealth and mortality invites viewers to ponder life's essential priorities. The narrative delicately explores the hardships of labor and the often-overlooked struggle for recognition. The cinematography is so expertly crafted that certain monologues resonate as if personally delivered. In the intersection of drama and romance, 'Days of Heaven' captivates as a favorite, skillfully concluding as it began. A harmonious blend of acting, storytelling, and cinematography renders this film a perfect example of why cinema remains an enduring passion. RIP Linda Manz Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/23 Full Review David F The strengths of this movie are that it is very beautiful with gorgeous scenery and a century-old world conjured out of wheat fields and a beautiful old mansion. The weaknesses are that the story is a bit slow and the characters, while driven by strong passions, are not characterized to the fullest extent. It's very cinematic, Biblical, and epic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrence Malick writes and directs the late Sam Shepard, Richard Gere, and Brooke Adams Set during 1916 when America was booming thanks to the Industrial Revolution Bill a manual laborer kills his boss and ends up fleeing to the Texas Panhandle He brings his girlfriend Abby and daughter Linda A complicated love triangle ensues though when the farmer they end up working for fall in love with Abby Bill encourages her to marry him that way they can inherit the fortune but he has to remain silent about the scheme and can't be seen with her Malick shows his love for beauty in the landscapes and there's never a shot where you can admire the sunrise It almost looks like a nature documentary No one's perfect; you got half devil and half angel in you The characters aren't anything deep to write home about but the actors are charismatic enough The whole thing is like watching a poem come to life of a time and place long gone but some wish to return Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
