Fake job scams are getting more insidious and convincing, it's disgusting at this point, especially near Christmas

My mother recently became unemployed and was looking for jobs online which is a new thing for her, but she got an email offering an interview that didn't make any insane promises and it looks legit until you really dig into it, it's like they picked up on the things people know about these scams and tried to combat it.

the claims they offer for the position are nothing outrageous, no insane pay. they have a domain registered for the email, so it isn't just an outlook or Gmail. when you look into the domain it was registered in October 2021 though, the site is blank. the number they give has no info. the company they name has little to no info as well.

they are going by kindhirehr, and saying they're with the Canada ai group.

the main kicker for me is that this guys name changed inbetween emails in the same day. his last name went from one thing to another. it honestly could've fooled me at this stage if I weren't so skeptical. the name kind hire is a bit of a red flag in general, a little too on the nose.

but they're getting smarter. Please be careful out there.

Their initial email:

Thank you for applying to our Customer Service Advisor/Benefits Representative position. We received your application from JazzHR.

We've reviewed your qualifications and look forward to fully discussing the position with you, and learning more about you.

This position provides weekly pay, great benefits, and company events and trips. You will be working with potential clients, helping them choose the best benefits options for their families.

We are currently holding online interviews on Wednesday, December 15th at 12PM. Does this time work for you?

In case the hiring manager needs to reach out to you prior to your interview, please confirm your phone number: (NUMBER REMOVED)

Thank you again for your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sad that criminal people exploit people like this. It should be much bigger focus to stop internet scams around the world

u/forgivemelake avatar

It was incredibly convincing like a lot of the flags it seemed they tried to pick up on and fixed until you dive further in.. :( this was her first run in too

I have been dealing with shit like this. I get emails with job offers. The thing that always seems off is that they are for positions related to my work experience, problem is that since I graduated I have been looking into jobs in my profession, not from work related to things I've done.

The thing that pisses me off is that since I am accepting most calls I get, I have had about 4 or 5 "interview" calls where they call me about a position I applied to. They ask me interview-like questions, and when I ask them about the position so I can pull up my application they ignore me. Finally they start asking for personal information or asking me to email it to them. They harass and continue to call me over and over again about the position asking me to send them my personal info.

This is a ruse to get personal info?

Partly. !job scam

These scams can evolve into many different ways. Could be a variation of fake cheque or advance payment. Or sometimes they do this to con you into unwittingly participating as a parcel or money mule in an elaborate scam setup.

u/AutoModerator avatar

Hi xcaliblur2, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain fake job scams. Fake job scams come in many different varieties, though most share common characteristics that you can use to spot the scam before becoming a victim. The scammers will usually conduct interviews over Google Hangouts or a similar online service. Their English will be awkward, and they may be re-using a script, so Googling unique sounding parts of the email may yield useful results. They will offer high wages for the work being done, and they will "hire" you by telling you that you are hired, rather than going through the normal process that a company takes when hiring an employee in your country. If they mention anything about a check or about receiving and sending out transactions, it is a fake check scam. If they mention anything about receiving, processing, or inspecting packages, it is a parcel mule scam. If they ask you to purchase items up-front, ask you to pay a fee in order to be hired, or ask you to purchase gift cards, it is an advance-fee scam. If the job involves posting advertisements on Craigslist or eBay, they are using you and your account to scam people. If the job invovles Bitcoin ATMs, it's a scam. Thanks to redditor AceyAceyAcey for this script.

Did she apply to this job via JazzHR? It would be kind of odd that a recruiter would get an applicant from another recruiter. One thing to do is keep track of the agencies you use. Like if you apply via the Roger Dodger staffing agency and you get a bite ask where they got your name. If she really did use JazzHR she should let them know. No legit agency wants to get mixed up with scammers. I'm sorry this happened to her and I'm glad you were looking out.

Thank you for posting this and the entirety of the email. Putting whole sentences or a paragraph into a search engine was one of the ways I kept myself from being scammed during a job hunt once or twice. Your posting will help others that's for sure.

Just recently went through this it’s so frustrating especially when you really need a job. Luckily I caught on that it was a scam early on

I just sat in on an information session with them. The session was a video that played but I truly appeared that someone was on cam with you. I was skeptical, because so many people were asking questions in the chat and no one was being addressed by the speaker.

The job was selling insurance to union policy holders and the position seemed pretty decent in terms of duties but what is too good to be true often is just that.

In order to have this job you must be licensed to sell insurance in your province. The company offers a discounted rate foe this course for 250$.

It truly does seem legit - possibly the most legitimate scam I've ever seen. I don't consider myself gullible or naive either.

Watch yourself out there folks.

u/forgivemelake avatar

Was this with kindhire or a different scam?

Yes, Kindhire.

u/forgivemelake avatar

I see. My mom didn't sit in on the session because I told her it's very likely a scam. I guess the goal is to sell the course to you

I’ve been recently looking for jobs, so at first I didn’t think anything of it and honestly when I got this email I was a little confused but not too much, and I almost clicked the link for the “interview” in 2 days. But then I saw that sometimes it takes 20minutes to join the meeting and that it was okay and that threw me off. Thank god your post was here because who knows what they would’ve of could’ve hacked if I didn’t see this post.

You’re a life saver!!!

Edit: this guys name was Joe Allen and email joe@kindhirehr.com for Benefits Specialists/Customer Advisor Position….

I just got an email from "Joe Allen" 🤦‍♂️

omg I literally just got the same email from the same guy. I can't believe this guy is still out here doing the same shit a year later -______- thank you for your post! This would be my 3rd time almost getting scammed and the wonderful people of reddit have saved me again! lol Thank you! <3

u/Rexdpierce avatar

Just got this email from Joe Allen for an interview for a job I didn’t remember applying for, but it could be me…

Here is this week's availability:

I set up the interview then decided to check for scams. Something just seemed off. More to follow. I’m going to do the interview anyway.

The Batten Group of Texas seems legitimate, but the website’s acting a little hinky.

What's the point? Waste time?

If it hasn't already been posted, myself and others have been contacted by Kamody (a real company in Poland) by their "North American" representative. All were different names, and used basic Gmail accounts. They all offer the same job of "Text Editor". It seems to be a bait and switch/piggyback scheme, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS JOB. It pays too much for too little work. You will not be asked to give any information upfront, and will be promised to be paid for your "work" after the first two weeks. After week one, they will tell you that either A) the job is no longer available, or B) your job position is being changed. They will ask you to become an eBay seller, and this is where they can snatch your bank account information!

Earlier this year, eBay and PayPal's agreement expired, I know this from being a long time seller. eBay will now only pay you directly to your bank account. I assume this is where the Kamody scheme starts, by asking you to become an eBay seller, and probably ask for your bank account information. This is not 100% confirmed, but all the information gathered points to JOB SCAM.

Beware, and happy holidays!

Storytime

Ugh, I fell for this, was a remote position, e-mail looked legit to me even. I have had a couple of classes for scam, and fraud. So here I was thinking I knew what I was doing and that this was legit.... lol. I got a "check" for almost two g's in the mail sent via priority mail. Like it's legit, right. The check looks pretty legit too. Except it has all of the "fake" check things. Check is from a company called Sojern Inc right, their addy info on the check matches. The bank info on the check matches too. So seems pretty legit. Except.. kicker the place that the "check" was sent from back to the priority mail, the sender. Royal Development Inc, but the address that is under that name is for some house in Salt Lake. Took that to my bank, was like IDK what to do with this... but I think this is a scam... (had legit checks to cash anyway so worked out)
I honestly feel like the two are tied, because that is the only sketch thing I've given my info to recently.

Good luck to her. It's insane out here!

u/Killerfluffyone avatar

fyi there is a number on the check that designates the bank, the issuing branch, and the account number that funds are being withdrawn from. Pretty much the only way to verify if a check is real is to call the issuing branch, give them the number and ask if it is legit. I don't know how to do this in the US but in Canada there is also a site that lists all the transit (branch/bank) numbers along with the location of the branch so it is possible to verify yourself as well.

Would I be wrong if I start suing the companies because it’s gotten outta hand. I had 4 in the same day I already got scammed outta info once but how many companies am I going to call to question their legitimacy before I say enough is enough. I’ll start with indeed and work my way down

I've noticed a lot of recruitment emails for jobs, descriptions are valid enough. When I email back, I receive no response. I've noticed there are a lot fo remote positions with companies I've never heard of and the descriptions are so vague. I can't tell if all of this is a scam or just simply fake. What is the purpose of fake jobs?

u/untitledm2 avatar

You just saved me much time thank you!!

u/forgivemelake avatar

Did you fall for them too? I'm glad some people have found this post. A few people have commented now saying they ran into this company

u/untitledm2 avatar

I got the email and I’ve been actively applying for jobs. It was very vague and so I tried to do a bit of research and it led me to your post! Basically the exact same message. The same exact position haha! And the company name is “Omid Group of CA” thank God for your post lol

u/forgivemelake avatar

I figured I'd post since I def could've fallen for it myself if it weren't for a couple of the things I mentioned not adding up. Like the guys name changing between emails haha. It's crazy how good they've gotten with these scams.. i really had to look closely and think hard. I figured I'd post here since at the time anyways there were no mentions of this particular one

u/untitledm2 avatar

Yes it’s ridiculous really! Can’t trust anything these days!

u/forgivemelake avatar

I'm always amazed this is still going.. I'm really glad I posted this though. At the time there was literally nothing else about this, idk about now. I still frequently get comments from people about this shit. I hope I've saved a lot of people with this though and they aren't still having success with this

I received this recently from Brent <brent@kindhirehr.com> :

Thank you for your interest in our company. We would love to set up a virtual interview and answer any questions you have regarding this position as well as get to know more about you.  In case the hiring manager needs to reach out to you prior to your interview, please confirm your phone number

This is for our Benefits Specialists/Customer Advisor Position with The Zuzick Associates of CT (I love the professional photo of the General Agent at the very bottom).

You will be helping potential clients decide on the best benefits services for their families.

Zuzick Associates of CT (I love the professional photo of the General Agent at the very bottom).I then asked Brent if this is the AIL insurance (pyramid scam) they sell. His first reply did not even touch upon question. Then he admitted that they are affiliated with AIL in the 2nd email.___

Then I received the below text (from 860-540-6346) the next day from "GL Group of CT" (cannot find a website for them).

First SMS: Hey , please confirm if you are looking for a remote position. We can interview this week. Reply STOP if you are no longer searching.

(I said yes to see where it was going to go)

Second SMS: Perfect, our company name is GL Group of CT, and this is for our Benefits Rep Position. We provide full training, weekly pay, benefits, and we are hiring long term. You will be helping potential clients choose the best benefits services for their families.

*Notice the identical boldfaced sentence. And there is not website for kindhirehr.com.
_______

UPDATE:

I received a reply from 860-540-6346. Their website is altig[dot]com. One review states it is mainly all commission

u/forgivemelake avatar

I see that people are still finding this post. At the time I made it I couldn't find anything about it which is why I initially made it. I was really worried someone would fall for it because it honestly looked legit compared to most scams like this, but I noticed a number of flags. Your message makes me think it's the type where they're getting people to pay for some scam course or certification and then obviously no job actually exists

Yeah, perhaps, but the Zuzick place has a real address, granted it is in RI but CT is in the name (but that does not mean much).

u/forgivemelake but in your post you state that 'before you posted this post on this sub' there were web search results that insinuated this was a scam , what were some of those results BEFORE you posted this post here

More replies
u/forgivemelake avatar

Also the email was from that same domain. I think it was Alex though? I noticed however the last name changed from one email to another lol.. really weird stuff

they are real "pros". I did not even both clicking the unsubscribe link in the email (domain was applicantstream[dot]com) in case it was a trap.

u/forgivemelake avatar

I'm curious what really set it off for you it was a scam? Also was it the kindhire that lead you here? I tried to give as much info as I could and pasted the email word for word. it really pissed me off since it was my mom who is less tech savvy but honestly even to me I could see myself falling for it. It looks legit. Until you really narrow in. People shouldn't have to look that deeply for a fucking interview lol .. sad world. I wonder how many people have fallen for this :(

Assuming you are not a shill for the scammers and using my research technique to know how to better bait people. ;-P , 100% joking...

Here is was my process:

  1. I looked up 'The Zuzick Associates of CT'. Saw the address was in RI. Thought Chilynn Acevedo's photo on the About page was ridiculous, but the real smoke that led me down the rabbit hole was this Forbes "award" for 'happiest companies to work for'. I noticed the AIL at the bottom of that image and wondered what it was. That led me to the AIL insurance pyramid scam. I actually did not notice the kindhirehr email domain until today (I'm lightly kicking myself for initially missing it as I am usually on top of that sort of stuff, but I'll get over it). Searching for kindhirehr led me to your post. And the rest as they say, is history. ;-)

So THANK YOU!

It also sounded like all commission. Yeah, truly sad.

Here to say thank you for posting this because I just got an email from Brent@kindhirehr.com Thankfully putting this email into Google took me to this Reddit right away screw them for preying on anyone but like damn- I've applied to soooo many places and it looks like one of the companies I have previously applied to.

There were little things that let me know it was kinda suss. Like- no signature in the email. Also who only offers one time for an interview?

I'm just glad that I've developed a habit of being suspicious of everything.

Here's the email:

I just got an email exactly like this, this morning! It's still happening unfortunately :(

Just got an email from someone at kindhire named Joe. Im really glad I looked them up before I replied asking questions because I did apply on Indeed, but the name of the employer he mentioned doesn't match. Red flags everywhere.
