FIXED: For anyone that sees this, I was able to fix the issue, but the methods to do it involved some trial and error. My camera would not be recognized if I did any of this out of step. Here's what I did.
-I downloaded and installed version 7.7.3., then closed the program.
-I plugged my camera into the AC adapter with all batteries removed. I connected my camera to the PC using a USBC before turning it on. My camera was bricked, so I rebooted in recovery mode by holding down the focus button (+) immediately after turning the camera on. The timing is tricky, and you have to do it right. Even in recovery mode, my camera still had a black screen and the fans didn't turn on. The only way to tell if I had done it correctly was if I heard my PC do the little noise it does when I plug in media.
-Only then did I open 7.7.3. and the camera was recognized. I reloaded the software and updated the camera.
-Then I left the camera plugged in to the PC, uninstalled 7.7.3, and installed 7.9. I had difficulty getting 7.9 to recognize my camera, but leaving the camera plugged in and turned on between installations seemed to do the trick. 7.9 would freeze and crash if I tried to plug the camera in after it had been opened.
-The updater finally saw the camera and I was able to upgrade.
That's what worked for me. Good luck.
Hello all,
I've seen a few people who have this issue. I updated to the newest firmware, the update stalls at 99, then the camera bricks. I've seen people link to this thread, which seems to work for some people - viewtopic.php?p=860376&sid=adf8c2fcdc79fd59c12cf0eb3ca9d30e#p860376
I have tried rebooting the camera in recovery mode to no avail. I am holding down the focus button (looks like this (+) )while powering the camera on, but to no avail. Has anyone else overcome this issue? It's a little frustrating that an update did this, considering I am well past warranty at this point.
Thanks,
Mike
