Alphabet’s CFO has a new job: She’s now president and chief investment officer of the tech giant that owns Google. (Porat will step down as CFO when Alphabet names a successor.) The shake-up puts Porat in charge of the company’s portfolio of “Other Bets” like self-driving car unit Waymo and deep-pocketed investment vehicles like corporate venture capital arms GV and CapitalG. Porat is already credited with helping oversee massive growth at Alphabet. Since she joined in 2015, revenue has soared from about $75 billion to more than $283 billion in fiscal 2022, and the company returned $59 billion in capital to shareholders that year. Her new mandate ensures Porat will keep playing a substantial role in future growth and competitiveness, not to mention helping Alphabet navigate its mounting antitrust docket. Her new duties include engaging with policymakers and regulators.
