1 9 7 5 – 1 9 7 8 (Canada)
32 x 30 minute episodes
Rosie Tucker (Rosemary Radcliffe) has just graduated from a motion picture school, applied for a government Local Initiatives Program (LIP) grant and set out to make great Canadian documentaries with her company, Zonk Productions.
She rents office space in the basement of an ancient building in Sumach Street, Toronto, thereby acquiring a colourful supporting cast – elevator operator Dwayne Kramer (John Stocker), building superintendent Purvis Bickle (Dan Aykroyd), a salesman of Neva-Rust storm doors named Ralph Oberding (Dan Hennessey), the operator of the Ringading telephone answering service, Mona Swicker (Fiona Reid) and a moviemaking assistant called Dudley Nightshade (Barry Baldaro).
This nonstop bunch of characters chase each other in and out of offices, elevators and broom closets, tripping over mops and falling into buckets of water, all the time exchanging rapid-fire lines like “I haven’t lost my integrity – I left it in your office with my clothes”.
The CBC show initially aired on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4.30 pm but eventually dropped back to once a week.
