Chevalier de Lorraine

Philippe, Chevalier de Lorraine (1643-8 December 1702) was a French nobleman and the lover of Philippe I, Duke of Orleans.

Biography[]

Philippe was the son of Henri, Count of Harcourt, and he was the younger brother of Louis, Count of Armagnac. In 1658, he became the lover of Philippe I, Duke of Orleans, and he openly flaunted his affairs at court. In 1670, the Duke of Orleans' wife persuaded King Louis XIV of France to imprison the Chevalier in Lyon and then at the Chateau d'If, and he was again exiled in 1682 after attempting to seduce Louis, Count of Vermandois. His lover died in 1701, and he died of apoplexy a year later.
